Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I can't do big crowds but I'll be there in spirit.

An ex-forumite was planning to go for a walk there tomorrow. You might want to check in with him.

I am always amused by how creative lefties are when they protest. It's like they think that their cause is more valid of they make a more creative demonstration as opposed to a petition or something. I saw one of them on the news painting a sign that said "trump will lie about this", that tickled me.

Do take some pictures of the best signs.

I never said that your protest negates any other ways.

And standing shouting fuck you at Trump or anyone even with 70,000 combined voices ultimately changes little, especially the actions of a foreign head of state.

I get the rage the anger the frustration and your need to express it. But it won't change the world, or Trump.

If they anger me smile at them

If they shout at me speak softly to them

If they beat me do not strike them back

If they hate me show them love

No one clever said that ....just me.

Hate always creates hate anger creates anger hurt creates more hurt...

We change the world one day at a time.

Each one of us. We protect the weak care for the sick defend the dispossessed give to those who are in need cry with those who cry laugh with those who laugh and always remember that each one of us can change the world in a small way by showing there is a better way...

Trump loves conflict or so it seems. Deny him his power by ignoring him and not playing his game.

One day he will be gone. And those whose lives we can make better our energies are better spent there.

I do understand your rage at injustice. All injustices. And love your passion for stuff.

My use of the word better was not a suggestion that protest was wrong or doesn't have a place.

Solidarity is good too. But we stand stronger when we use that solidarity for a purpose that uplifts those who need us every day.

Raging against a guy who loves the drama etc may make us feel good for a few moments but won't change the world when idiots like Trump are insulated from its realities.

I think you know I will never stand on the side of any bully or oppressor. Desmond Tutu was speaking of the specific horrors of apartheid with all its oppression and a wholly undemocratic society.

Sadly Trump was elected and in that context has the same legitimacy as any elected politician. And people have the same chance to remove him if they wish to.

We should still stand against evil in the world. But protest alone never achieves that.

It comes from each person doing what they believe is right. Rosa Parks Ghandi, Martin Luther King.... they all say change comes when people change when peace and love overcome hate and bigotry...

The protests won't change much. Each of us can every day one person at a time

There are times for ignoring and times for making a stand. I disagree with you here wholeheartedly. I think Desmond Tutu summarises my thoughts on this best “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.“

Each of us can every day one person at a time "

Pretty sure that Parks, Ghandi and King would have a little “fuck you” to Trump. And I’ve not advocating violence, I’m protesting to say no. I strongly disagree with this being something it is better not to do. Very strongly.

This has turned into a politics board thread but I'll post this anyway...

It may not achieve any change in Trump's stance but it may make some of the agnostics interested to see what this is all about and some might harden towards Trump but others might think, I didn't know that, and change sway towards not voting for him in 6 years.

I’m sure there’s some protesting up there too. Don’t worry.

Plus I wanted to protest and I had to work first, if you are requiring me to now get to Scotland then I don’t get to do my bit! The protest is about solidarity for me.

It's creeping me out how Teresa May holds his hand. So unprofessional.

He treats women leaders very differently to his treatment of male leaders. He doesn't do the power handshake with women. It's quite telling.

Why is she holding his hand though? Even if she genuinely likes him as a person it still feels really odd. But then I am odd so maybe it's just me. "

I’m odd also then as I find it uncomfortable to watch and not sure why they hold hands.

"Isnt Trump in Scotland now ?

It wasn’t about meeting him.

Yes i know but wouldnt a protest be more effective if it was where he is ?

I’m sure there’s some protesting up there too. Don’t worry.

Plus I wanted to protest and I had to work first, if you are requiring me to now get to Scotland then I don’t get to do my bit! The protest is about solidarity for me. "

Im not worried. Protests towards Trump dont bother me one way or another.

Im not requiring you to do anything. Im sure you can make your own mind up what you do.

I was simply asking a question as in my experience protests are more effective if they are actually happening where the person is. I was wondering why a protest was happening in another place to where Trump is. You seem to have taken my comment/question in a negative way but thats typical here

She's a bit gawky and socially awkward. I think she doesn't know how to extricate her hand without it looking rude. Her smile has that "pretend the dog hasn't farted and hope they don't notice" look.

"Trafalgar square is far too busy...

But I have a beach sand dunes soft surf sand swishing between your toes a golden sunset that shimmers on the water and the sort of moon that turns night into day...

But I’ve a protest to do!

There are better ways to change the world

List them. And then explain to me how my protesting negates any of them? Sometimes you need to stand and say “fuck you”.

I never said that your protest negates any other ways.

It was implied in your use of the word ‘better’, only reason I challenged you.

And standing shouting fuck you at Trump or anyone even with 70,000 combined voices ultimately changes little, especially the actions of a foreign head of state.

It gives me a sense of solidarity.

There are times for ignoring and times for making a stand. I disagree with you here wholeheartedly. I think Desmond Tutu summarises my thoughts on this best “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.“

There's no way in hell desmond tutu would have voted for Clinton though... "

As Muhammed Ali said "the man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life" - that perfectly sums up the problem with Corbyn.
