Alloys used to have problems in the past eg. Buckling and leaking. Are they upto the task now?

Just around the corner

Modern ones seem fine as long as you avoid the potholes. Mines got 18in alloys and I’ve had no problems yet.

How far you going back. Unless your taking silly elastic band tires they're fine.

"Not a very helpful is it? "

Think he means for hitting potholes and kerbs etc.

Knew someone who was always complaining about alloys.

The outer face side would be ok because that's where the spokes were. The rim on the inside had no spokes so prone to buckle and fail the mot.

Some tyres have a protective lip on the rim to give some protection from scratching the rims but not sure how good they are.

I'm changing cars so weighing up the pros n cons

The alloy can corrode and become porous.

Not sure if they can be coated with some sealant inside or not

Mine is leaking air but I guess if it's leaking, it will leak what ever you put in it!

I have to pump it up once a fortnight. Really ought to get the tyre removed, the rim cleaned and the tyre put back on to see if that fixes it.

You could test the valve itself. I changed the valve core on one of mine

Valve seems ok but it's pence to change the core so I'll give it a try

North Bucks

When I purchased my car I got an alloy wheel policy that covers accidental damage puncture repair along with a certain amount of tyre replacement.

Bit soapy water (washing up liquid) on/in valve. see if it bubbles away
