When does a quitter become a non-smoker?

So...a week and a half of the fags, I think it's probably tempting fate, and definitely too early to change the profile from "smoker" to "non-smoker"...but at what point do you reckon it becomes acceptable?

When you're truely ready to say "never again" to them. It could be the day you've quit, could be in 20 years time.

Some people class E-Cigs as still being a "smoker".

It's one of the hardest things to actually give up, I can go for months without a drink, but take ma roll ups away from me and you are a dead man

Who knows, I've been two weeks off but I know I'll go back to it next week so I won't be changing mine!

Nah, the quit smoking clinic have given me patches and some thing that makes it look like I've developed some weird tampon-sucking fetish

6 months seems to be the popular choice so far...

I was kinda hoping something more like 2 if I'm honest, but I get it...

I’d say a couple of days . Any smell will have gone and your skin and breath won’t smell of fags .

Why people are saying six months is beyond me . The fact is you are a non smoker from the moment you stub out that last fag .

£10 a packet ,if you smoked a packet a day , your £600 better off already .

that buys a holiday ,or , armani jeans, and shirt and glasses,or a cheap run around car.

or most importantly 172 pints of lager.

I'm a non smoker for a few days every fortnight, purely because I can't afford to buy any more tobacco, I have had numerous opportunities to kick the , but even though I know what damage it does, I can't seem to let it go

You can go a couple of days without smoking? Well your on your way to quitting surely? I'd just not buy anymore.

I'm on champix. I haven't stopped altogether yet but cut right back. I just need to change my routines and I'll have nailed it!

I would say you can change your profile to non smoker after a couple of days, when you no longer smell of fags and wouldn't be smoking before or on a meet.

Well done on quitting - i gave up last August and it's one of the best things I've done, plus I'm over £2k better off and it is SO much nicer kissing non-smokers!

I can answer this as it’s part of my job.

Officially it’s 4 weeks.

I tried that champix initially, cos my old dear (who's always been a proper chain smoker - lighting one as the other gets stubbed out) managed to quit for a bit on them, and I figured if they can work for her they can work for anyone.

So that week, I'm feeling really weird. Like "everything is shit" kind of weird, and I don't know why - nothing bad has happened, I've not been being horrible to myself, but everything seems really shit. Friday morning, literally as I'm putting the tablet in my mouth, I realise there's a correlation between me feeling that way and taking these tablets, and figure I should probably read the blurb that comes with it. It says 1 in 10 feel nauseous, but no problems there. 1 in 100 have mood swings, depression and suicidal thoughts..."Ahhh!" says I - not been taking them since!

Haven't read the thread sorry, I may just be repeating this:

You know when you stub a fag out? That's when you become an ex smoker
