Yes, well that's the bad side of things which is obviously totally unacceptable.
If we get to the final it's history in the making!! |

And how many millions of fans DIDN’T cause criminal damage? - 99.9rec % I’d imagine! Millions who don’t normally watch football have been watching England in the World Cup - even my mum! It’s bringing the nation together- so suck it up buttercup!
It won’t kill anyone if the shops close early on a Sunday for a change - and the few who don’t watch the match will get extra time with their loved ones! Win win! |

Anyone that can remember the last world cup England won is near enough a pensioner now, if we get to the final it's not even a once in a generation event, it's a once in a lifetime event. And while I'm not overly interested, I know I'll be in the minority and would hope many retailers close early for the sake of their staff. Everyone can cope with the shops shutting slightly early on a Sunday |

I'm rarely late and it's just as rare for me to call in sick. I've honestly never pulled a sickie in my life, I just haven't got it in me. They'd call someone else in and it's not fair on that person.
They'd never believe me and I couldn't do it.
I'm the reliable twat.
I will however throw a wobbly when I'm there |

I’d love it to for the sake of the weekend staff (fortunately I’m not one of those) - but sadly I think it’s unlikely! They’re not renowned for doing anything other than the legal minimum for employees(wages, holiday entitlement etc). Hopefully they’ll surprise me though! |

People can generally cope with a supermarket closing an hour early. Not so with hospitals, trains etc. It’s a nice gesture by the management, nobody will die because of it. |

We closed our doors and put the shutters down when the match finished last Saturday, they were going nuts in the streets and tearing places up so we said stuff it and didn’t open till they calmed down and the police had settled the crowds, we will probably do the same for the rest of the matches till it’s over |

I've shut for every game bar the Belgium one. I do something quite novel and tell them they hit there targets they can not only finish early but they'll also lose no wage. Absolute twat convincing directors this was a good idea but productivity is up 30% on last month so go figure.

My boss loves it to, if we don't close by the time he gets home it'll be over. Unfortunately he's not the one who makes decisions like that.
Ps Granny C it's history in the making I'm not a massive football fan but I really enjoy the world cup! |

I don't particularly like football and all the acrobatic nonsense displayed in this world cup proves why but I have to admit I think this decision from Aldi is great. Why shouldn't employers celebrate a bit of English success in England?
I can cope with losing an hour of shopping time on a Sunday. I'd quite like to see stories of nurses and patients able to watch some of the match in TV rooms. sport can be quite a leveller and let's people forget the shit that's going on in the world for just a few fleeting moments. Why would you not just enjoy that? |

Germans trying to ingratiate themselves with the British public to lift sales is more likely their motive. This is business and cut throat as ever.

Jesus, just because Aldi is closing an hour early doesn’t mean you have to sit and watch the match. Other shops and activities are available. Just don’t watch it and let the people with a bit of national pride enjoy it. |

Germans trying to ingratiate themselves with the British public to lift sales is more likely their motive. This is business and cut throat as ever.
Aldi UK have their headquarters in the UK and it is run by British people. Nothing to do with the Germans really. just owned by one of two German brothers I wonder where profits go maybe to the English football federation
Yes it is, but the decisions for Aldi UK are made in the UK, not Germany. yes but you know and I know it's not about England it's about profits for Germany specifically Aldi a German man.......... Cmon England "
Aldi is not a man btw, there never was a man called Aldi, the two founders were called Albrecht, Theo and Karl. All I was pointing out is that it’s not a ploy by the Germans because Aldi UK is run from the UK. And I concur, c’mon England. |

I wasn’t aiming at you, it was aimed at whoever said the Germans were trying to win favour to boost profits. If that was you then it was aimed at you. |

Good news for some doesn’t interest me lol"
Even if you don’t like football, try having a bit of national pride about you or at least stop trying to ruin the moment for those that enjoy it. It’s very childish. You don’t have to watch it or get involved do you. |

"I think it’s bloody madness closing shops for the football they all mone now that they don’t get trade we don’t all watch football I hope they don’t get through look at waht the twats of so-called supporters have done to one fast response ambulance and smashed other car up.
Win win! "
Your attitude of 'suck it up' seems pretty divisive to me.
My immediate thought was the shops must be closing for fear of hooliganism, not letting staff of to watch the match. Such is the amount of thuggery I've seen. |

I used the timing of the last two England games to get my shopping done at Aldi without them having to throw things across the scanners at breakneck (breakegg?) speed.
Wish they played every weekend. |

Trying to avoid the sheer amount of sport in tv at the moment isn't easy. Unless you are paying for extra channels. Just imagine if football was suddenly replaced with dressage or croquet and half the country and the print, radio and tv stations never stopped prattling on about it. Put yourself in the shoes of a non sports fan. Its hell I tell you. Hell. |

Dont paint everything with the same paint brush. There's a lot of twat on here... Should it be taken down because of a few? Do you delete ur profile because of a few no shows? Does one stop postingor reading forums because of a few obusive idiots?
No. Rise above and be the change you want to see. Join in and celebrate others achievements even if you aren't emotionally affected by it. Celebrate others enjoyment. Be happy for others.
It's a sad day when we look at others achievements and piss on them.
Most businesses will save money closing early and through the fact their employees will think more of them if they do. What odds in the long run if some close for a few more hrs in the year? Reality is none. We can make it an issue or celebrate it. |

Aldi is a German company. Where do you get your information from?
Aldi UK is separate from aldi international.... Where do you get your information from? "
Where do you get yours from begs the question?
Aldi is a private German family business. Which means they don’t publish aacounts, i.e. unaccountable.
Aldi Süd controls British shops to whom they are accountable for their profitability and management. Aldi hq is a few miles from us and if you hear what people at head office say about them it’s not good.
All profits go to Germany.
Just a cheap shot by them to close early.
And how come no British shops have followed suit?
Business is cut throat but some are easily beguiled by hollow gestures.

How do you know such things. Do you sit in on family meetings in Germany?

A couple of my suppliers are shutting down their phones at 3pm on Sunday if we get through, so staff can watch the match.
I think there would be an uproar if I shut the pub though |

Well done Aldi...
I would be totally shocked if wages were docked, this would not help the company, if they chose not to pay.
Should be a bank holiday and I bet if we win, it will become one.

Im hoping it's not true.
Can’t you just a bit earlier than usual, they close at 4 anyway.
I'd manage if they never opened. I just don't get the importance of the football. "
Me neither. It's just a bloody stupid game usually followed by morons! Completely ridiculous |
