Yes, all that is happening here and, in many other places all over the world. Times have been worse though! We still have an NHS, we still have social housing, we still have one of the best democratic systems for politics. Most of the poor have a roof over their heads with television, somewhere to cook with hot and cold running water and toilets. It's not perfect and there is certainly room for improvement. This is not necessarily the situation with the op but, I do tend to find that a lot of people with a negative outlook like the one above are, very good at pointing out all the faults but when challenged are doing between fuck all and very little to improve matters! They go to work and pay taxes and moan about what is wrong. A lot of people that moan don't exercise their right to vote at general or local elections. Are they getting involved in the neighborhood plan, are they getting involved in making sure planning and developers are following the rules about the percentage of social housing that must be included in any development over a certain size because, if you don't, they wriggle out of it? Are they campaigning to keep the local library open, whether they use it or not, for some, it's their only access to books and computers. Are they petitioning government and getting directly involved in putting pressure on them about the NHS or closing tax loopholes that only benefit the rich. Are they helping the homeless or helping the heroes? Do the step outside their front door with a smile and spread a bit of love (even to people that voted differently in the Brexit referendum or, people less fortunate) to try and help heal the divisions in our country? And, there is so much more as individuals or small groups that people can do to effect change. People are entitled to their opinions but don't just moan about how bad things are, try and do something about it or it will stay the same or get worse! Often, when I come across people that like to pick out all the negatives and, I ask them what they are doing about it or, contributing to make it better, the answer is fuck all. I'm loving my country and a majority of the lovely people that inhabit it and, I shall keep pushing forward to make it a better place for future generations. My experience of comparing the two is that Chinese people want the country to do well because they know everyone does better eventually. " The problem with grumpy little Britons is that they forget how rare and incredible it is to live in a country where you can get things like a fair trial. In the UK, 82% of court cases end in conviction. Which makes sense if you think about it. In China it's over 99.9% (literally). | |||

I'd quite like to live in some of those places. I love the freedom you feel over there that you can't have here. I love the comraderie and creativity too. Very inspiring. Obviously it's a totally different issue for the people who are stuck there. I wouldn't want to get stuck in any of those countries and not be able to come back. But part of me would prefer to die of old age in some remote foreign place where I'm left to do so by myself or with my family than in a strip lit hospital hooked up to a million machines. Yup and people would also learn from developing countries too. I'm not talking about shipping people off to the fucking Congo to get shot at, but go somewhere like India, China, Brazil etc. There's good things there as well as bad. But it makes you realise what you've actually got here.

They are all written in a plain English style so anyone can read and understand the arguments made.

Bad science by Ben Goldacre - about people using bad science to make unfounded claims about products, diets etc for instance Homeopathy, antioxidants, facecream, moisturisers a bit dated as was written in 2009 but still funny
Bad Pharma by Ben Goldacre again - about dodgy pharma companies.
The War We Never Fought - by Peter Hitchens explains how politicians, celebrities and the media have, since the 1970’s misled the public on the alleged war on a particularly green mind altering substance he explains and quite convincingly shows how the alleged ‘war on mind altering substances’ was never really waged. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea mind but he makes (in my opinion) a pretty solid argument.
