Transphobes at Londons Pride?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just watched coverage of a protest at Londons Pride. A group of Lesbians 'leading' the parade. There protest being that the L or the T (seemed a little confused) should be taken out of LGBTQ.
Seems they have a problem with men identifying as transsexual and then as Lesbians and forcing themselves? on female lesbians?
As a cisgender male I don't feel qualified to comment but seems very sad that the day was spoilt by such action.
What do others think? |

There's as much transphobia in the gay community, as in the straight one. Sadly, being a "minority" doesn't automatically make you tolerant of other minority groups.
I'm the same way as thete is racism between people with different shades of black skin, or those from different Asian backgrounds.

Is it that they’re ‘forcing themselves’ or is it that this minority is protesting in a very transphobic way that they resent ‘their’ lesbians being taken by what is in their view non lesbians?
It seems a little similar to gay men complaining about bisexual men ‘stealing’ their guys...
I’m possibly projecting a totally separate argument here, either way it seems very sad that they’re using pride to peddle hate and intolerance. |

They want the L taken out and to become their own subset.
They disagree with Trans women who identify as lesbians and think that lesbians having sex with Trans women is r*pe.
Their understanding of the word is limited by the seems of things.
They also claim they get accused of being transphobic for not wanting to sleep with trans women.
As someone else has said, being a minority does not mean you're automatically accepting of others.

No I think that's probably part of it.
I do find that people who are attracted to those who are trans usually call themselves pansexual as it's more inclusive but yeah, basically seems like they're jealous that trans women are getting more vagina than they are. |

A very sad state of affairs that these ladies, albeit only a dozen or so of them, by handing out flyers to the crowd, saw fit to try and disrupt the parade and made their protest right at the start. |

I think you find that the trans debate has only just started to hit mainstream audiences.
To be honest, I can see both sides of the argument, however the discussions need to be heard without shutting down debate by shouting transphobia or by disregarding the trans communities voice. |

I think there are a lot of grey areas, particularly around disclosure, and whether somebody who has transitioned should tell a potential partner about their history.
It does appear that some feminists have an issue with the trans community. |

Identifying as transexual or actually having had all the operations?
Disclosure of their past I can imagine would be an issue for some people as they would want to know the person's past.
Wanting to remove the L just seems petty and ridiculous. |

I think some feminists are out and out transphobies. But then I think some feminists who complain about the patriarchy, fail to see that they are as oppressive of other women.
However, I’m not sure a self identified trans woman who has had no surgery should be allowed in places where there are vulnerable women.
I don’t want a predatory male who puts a dress on, going in a changing room with my daughter. |

There's a thing called the cotton ceiling. People with penises who identify as women argue that lesbians should have sex with them because, despite their penises, they are women. They say that lesbians who refuse to have sex with them are transphobic and impose said cotton ceiling. That is they will treat them as women in all other respects but won't let them into their knickers.
Given that for most of us what genitals someone has is highly relevant to whether we have sex with them and given that lesbians don't tend to like penises, it seems to me entirely reasonable to protest at the idea that lesbians should not face pressure to have sex with people whose femininity is entirely separate from their genitals. |

I think that when people are demanding that other people fuck them, they should evaluates their life choices before complaining to anyone. I don't think it really requires a protest against that though, just a polite fuck off to people who pester for sex. |

No. They are objecting to people who have penises who identify as women and who want to have sex with women, saying they are lesbians and that lesbians with vaginas should be open to having sex with them.
It's a common misconception that Trans women don't have male genitals. Most do. |

If you Google cotton ceiling you will see there's quite a bit of social pressure from trans women with penises saying that if lesbians with vaginas won't have sex with them it's transphibic. It seems to be entirely reasonable to publicly put the opposite argument. |

To be honest, some points of view are so stupid that they don't really warrant a response. Flat earthers don't make me angry, I just find them amusing. David Icke doesn't offend me, I just want to try whatever he drinks. |

Id agree with you if the idea that gender is essentially a feeling in your head and has nothing to do with your genitals was the province of just a few Icke like people. The problem is, it isn't. |

They were protesting that some trans women are suggesting they have a female dick and lesbians should be happy to date and fuck them as they identify as women, which is a touchy subject for lesbians who want pussy.
There is much more to it than that, it is about choosing your gender and women only spaces and women with a pussy feeling threatened by women with a cock... And the new legislation being discussed in Parliament currently. |

I really don't understand how anyone who doesn't find another person/group/herd sexually desirable can be given a hard time.
I don't like dirty nails, should I go out and fuck people with dirty nails even though I don't find it desirable? I think not.
Each to their own and all that jazz.
No, those complaining that lesbians won't sit on their lady cock need to shut the fuck up, and those protesting about the complaining, well, it boggles my noggin. Why do people feel the need to put others down all the while? Live and let live, respect others choices. It really ain't that hard. |

The government is proposing to introduce a law whereby anyone can change their gender for legal purposes by making a statutory declaration. At the moment you can only do that if you have a gender reassignment certificate. Which involves a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria and living two years as your new gender.
Many women are up in arms about this as it would appear to suggest that any bloke can legally become a woman by just signing a piece of paper and thus gain access to female only spaces.
The government has now backtracked to a degree by saying that biological sex will still be a protected characteristic and thus trans women could still legally be denied access to women's changing rooms, women's refuges, women's prisons etc. |

A lot of feminism has come from the point where women have been shit down, silenced, patronised, mocked and belittled to the point where being a woman is seen as being "less than"
It's a power thing.
It's still ongoing.
And some women feel that transgender women, who haven't lived as a woman and undergone that same struggle, that are not embracing feminist ideals, are shouting them down and that their voices still aren't being heard.
And some transgender women feel that they are women through and through and have different bits.
It's not rocket science. It's not "loony lefties"
It's just people who have been made to feel.vulberable and "less than" fighting to be heard. |

"Can I now become a man, without having surgery, and join a gentleman's club? "
You don't have to have surgery now to change gender. Just the diagnosis of gender dysphoria and two years of living as the other gender.
Most transgender people haven't had surgery. |

"I really don't understand how anyone who doesn't find another person/group/herd sexually desirable can be given a hard time.
The lesbians (with a vagina they were born with) object because it is about to be debated in Parliament and they are being shut down by the lesbians with cocks.
Hatred ensues
What exactly are they debating in parliment?
Canada got themselves in a twist with Bill C16 which is far worse. However they have a looney left government and we don't. Every day i'm thankful that I don't have to interact with crazy people like that.
My problem is that the only people who seem to agree with me on this issue are the radical feminists and rabid right wingers like you
It's a lonely place being an old fashioned philosophical materialist... "
Lol, right wing doesn't really mean anything. I consider myself libertarian actually. It really doesn't bother me if people want to prance around saying "I'm a lady" like a little Britain sketch. I just don't want to forced to buy into such post modernist crap. I adore some females who have undergone gender reassignment surgery, in fact I thought hard about marrying one once. I know a few people like that and none of them are militant aggressive types trying to force anything on people. I believe the LGBT movement has been hijacked for nefarious purposes. |

You do have a bit of a tendency to see conspiracies, which is pretty typical of rabid right wingers.

We just want somebody to represent us financially at a political level, unfortunately labour seem to be far too concerned about bloody Palestinian and lbgtqpftg rallies for "us" to take them seriously.
So now we're stuck with Tories and getting shafted financially until we agree to all this transgender stuff.

My rule of thumb is that any philosophy originating in or popularised by French people is complete poppycock. The sheer volume of bad ideas that come out of one country is staggering to me and one day I'll get my head around why France produces such nonsense on a regular basis. |

"I thought everyone in the UK was forced by law to tolerate LGTBQ people - does this law not apply to lesbians as well?"
It seems to be about who is entitled to the label “lesbian”.
The Equality Act makes it illegal for a business or organisation to discriminate. But it does not prohibit freedom of speech.

It is equally illegal to discriminate on the basis od gender identity as it is to discriminate on the basis of sexuality, which would make it quite a moot point wouldn't it?
I really don't believe that anyone is insisting on a law that says anyone ever HAS to have sex with anyone else (except maybe some of the more insane Incels).
Surely anyone can call themselves a lesbian if they wish, you can call yourself anything you want,It;s up to others whether or not they take you seriously. Even a hairy assed lumberjack can say he's a lesbian but, other lesbians still have the choice whether to fuck or avoid (avoid, mostly, probably). |

It’s all a bit silly really , and so unnecessary .
To suggest a guy can become a woman by simply making a declaration is farcical , as is a woman making the same declaration that she is now a man .
I’m all for anyone being who and what they want to be , but not when a guy says he is a woman in order to become a lesbian , yet he still has a cock . I’m not surprised the lesbians are pissed off .

We all know what a lesbian is , and a hairy arsed lumberjack who says he is a lesbian , is an insult to a lesbian .
Just the same as a woman with a cunt and tits saying she is a gay man is an insult to gay men .
It’s just plain stupid and makes a mockery of what we all know to be reality .
How the hell am I supposed to explain how a hairy arsed guy is a lesbian to my eleven year old son ? Should I just say that the official definition of a lesbian has changed , and now anyone can call themselves a lesbian , male or female ?

Wow, I stirred up a right hornets nest, sorry about that! But its been educational to understand the complex facets of the debate.
So on the whole I understand the tension but no one's really forcing anyone to have sex with anyone else, that would be r*pe clearly. Though accusing lesbians as being transphobic just because they have a preference is wrong as is attacking trans women as not being real women because they were born with dicks. I hope bridges of acceptance can be built.
Changing rooms and toilets are frequently becoming unisex nowadays, never did like peeing in a line at urinals anyway.
Declaring yourself as a woman on alternate Wednesdays to get on all women short lists is silly, tbh I question such short lists anyway.
However the safe spaces especially womens refuges, women's prisons etc. I can see the problem. A man declaring himself a woman the day before he's sent down. Yeah I can see that's a difficult one, what do we do, consider the declared gender the person had been living in for a significant period? , separate based on genitalia; now or born with? Or create a multitude of prison wings for trans men and trans women etc? |

"There's a thing called the cotton ceiling.
But...but...he drinks piss!. |

No I don't beleive so, it was hypothetical but if you can just declare it it could happen. a UK case involved Jessica Winfield, formerly Martin Ponting who was accused of sexual harassment in a women's prison. |

While Pride in the UK g5eberally and in London in particular has become increasingly commercialised the political element remains. The origins of Pride is firmly in protest and on a global level many events are still very much a protest and not a celebration |

Surely who anybody choses to have sex with is a matter of personal choice. A lesbian who choses not to have sex with somebody because they are trans is not transphobic, just as choosing to seek partners from the same ethnic group doesnt make somebody racist.
I think there are a minority in the trans community who do want to push their rights too far. |

"Can I now become a man, without having surgery, and join a gentleman's club?
Or go into men's toilets and watch them at the urinals (they do that don't they?)."
You don't need to? There is no law against using toilets assigned to the opposite gender. The police advice to the trans community is to use the public toilets appropriate to the way they are presenting themselves at the time.
As for legal recognition, it is difficult to know where to draw the line. Forcing people to have complicated surgery in order to live their life as a female is not a good idea, but conversely, people should not be able to change back and forth on a whim. |

There are idiots on both sides here.
The deluded transvestite who labels themselves lesbian because they like to insert their pemid into a vagina while wearing women’s underwear.
And the militant feminist who takes the most deluded TV and broadbrushes the entire TV community.
Both communities have their gems and both have their oddballs, and we ought not to tarnish all with the same brush. |

"Can I now become a man, without having surgery, and join a gentleman's club?
Or go into men's toilets and watch them at the urinals (they do that don't they?).
You don't need to? There is no law against using toilets assigned to the opposite gender. The police advice to the trans community is to use the public toilets appropriate to the way they are presenting themselves at the time.
As for legal recognition, it is difficult to know where to draw the line. Forcing people to have complicated surgery in order to live their life as a female is not a good idea, but conversely, people should not be able to change back and forth on a whim."
People can live how they want, in my opinion if you have a vagina you are female if a penis you are male. |

Do you accept the concept of brains that are more male or female in their structure? As in, an educated neurologist could accurately predict whether a given brain belonged to a man or woman based on certain data and scans? |

Science can't be sexist. So if i told you that studies have found there are people who essentially have a brain that corresponds closer to the sex that doesn't match their genitals. Would you accept that genitals aren't the only component in what makes someone a man or a woman? I do accept that what I'm saying is rare and genitals would match for the vast majority of people. |

I didn't like the group using a celebratory match to demonstrate against some of the people that the march is there to support. It should surely have been against the parade rules - if not, the management were somewhat incompetent.
There should be common principles that are agreed to by all participant groups.
As it was, attendance was capped and many people who wanted to be there couldn't, so it seems even more inappropriate.
I understood the protesters were against trans women, from a feminist perspective - but this would be a very limited, twisted perspective. |

"I think some people are fucking stupid."
Agreed. What the fook does it matter what people identify as. TBH i think the labels cause division. We should all just see each other as sexual beings and whatever you do under that umbrella is your own business.
You have to wonder what their agenda is though? |

Yes labels do cause division. For example, because i am not a 63 year old woman, I am divided from the population that is eligible for a state pension because i am a 32 year old man. However, if you think labels don't matter and you're willing to recognise whatever I want to identify as, then why should I not identify as a 63 year old woman and collect state pension? |

That's not very fair considering men or x-men make up the lions share of the lgbtetc "community". |

"Just watched coverage of a protest at Londons Pride.

"What is Q in LGBTQ or should I already know this?
"
Q is for Queer or sometimes for Questioning. Also there should be an A for Asexual. I guess there's not too many of those on fab, but yes they are real and i know several as personal friends. |

Thanks, I thought it might be the former but I didn't want to say it and get backlash. The latter makes more sense to me so I'll take it as that. More vowels would be good then it can be added to the change one letter game and come up with a proper word! |

It's probably more about people born as men, shouting loudly about their rights as trans people. The trans debate is dominated by men who are/have transitioned shouting loudly about their rights to essentially dominate female spaces.
It's just another set of guys asserting themselves over women. |

I don't much about this but I do know theres good and bad in all.
Understanding I'd think would be easier from those who had experienced intolerant behaviour themselves and had to fight for their rights. Live and let live I say.

The female species?
There are plenty of female to male trans just they have the massive advantage of passing.
After a course of androgens pretty much any woman will pass as a man.
For male to female trans its a much harder step |

You should not assume that all members of a swingers site, even those who are bi-curious, are accepting of all sexual practices.
To begin with, I am fed up with terminology such as: "Homophobe", "Transphobe", "cis-gendered"(what the FUCK did this word come from?), and the language of collectivism, i.e. "communities". I am an independent individual who thinks for himself and has no concern for conforming or non-conforming with any form of groupthink or of avoiding Orwellian thoughtcrime.
"Homophobia" is not a dislike of homosexuals but a psychiatric diagnosis: an extreme fear that one may be a homosexual oneself.
"Transgenderism" is radically extreme and a delusional psychiatric condition. If the gender of your body is not genetically determined but a preference then, how much more so is your sexual behavior? Transgenderism refutes the assertion that homosexuality is genetically determined.
Besides, what gives any person or group the right to dictate to me what I find offensive or unacceptable? And I do find crossdressers, transvestites, and transgendered extremely creepy. I know an old friend from years ago who is going through this and I can see how harmful this is to him. He erupts into explosions of rage if you say anything even slightly offensive to him(NOT her) because of the effect of estrogen-like drugs. Also, there are some who abuse children by convincing them that they are of the opposite sex.
I am a conservative but I am a horny bi-curious member of a swingers site who has had a few brief encounters with men plus I am not a fire-breathing religious fanatic.
Fab once erased one of my posts and banned me briefly because I posted a few links. I hope that they will accept links from Youtube that discuss this. I'm not sure if anyone will read this anyway but posting this is therapeutic for me.
