That theory doesn't work for dresses and all-in-one things...though that probably doesn't matter to the OP.

Now if I could just find a way of remembering which setting to put the washing machine on. |

If it’s a shirt that is tucked in your trousers then I hang by the bottom hem. If not (say a polo) I fold over the line and peg in the arm pit area. |

Well that was an anticlimax. I was looling forward to a good camping related thread.
Personally I pen the legs in the futile hope the weight of the waistband keeps tension on the legs and help to pull the creases out as I don't like to iron. |
