Not all but, quite a lot of countries national anthems are!
Verses that can't or, perhaps shouldn't be sung because they cause offence (Americas 3rd verse).
Violent Lyrics like “The path to glory is built by the bodies of our foes.”(Vietnam)
Denmark's swears loyalty to the king of Spain.
Outdated tunes with words written when the world was a very different place...
If you are into sport, this summer you will be hearing a lot of them!
So, is it time to re-vamp them or re-write them to bring them up to date with a modern worlds way of thinking? |

It always make me smile when I hear ‘Flower of Scotland’; the whole anthem is about beating the English...
It reminds me of a line from Lord of the Rings; ‘What can men do against such reckless hate?’ |

Isn't verse 2 of the British national anthem a reference to battering the Scott's?
We're all just as bad as each other! |

If you want to start doing that then you might as well start airbrushing out all the shameful things that have happened throughout history..and there wouldnt be much left to pick over after that..

There's loads of pop songs too which are out-dated.
From "have a drink, have a drive" in Mungo Jerry's Summertime, to The Stones' "You taste so good... just like a Black girl should".
Possibly on of the funniest wtf lyrics must be Queen's Fat Bottemed Girls:
-------
But I knew love before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me.

Yes, very true. If you airbrush out all the shameful stuff from history there will be no British history left! |

There is not much in history that I find shameful if it is viewed within the context of the time it happened rather than from todays viewpoint/morals.
Yesterday I was reading how some councillors are trying to ban the film 'Zulu' because it glorifies violence against 'people of colour'. Unsurprisingly they are not wanting to ban 'Zulu Dawn'(the zulus win in that one)
Back to the OP
"The sun has got his hat on" should definitely be on the ban list |

"And there are no inappropriate lyrics in modern songs?
Why focus on the past?
Inappropriate for children maybe.Do you have a song in mind?"
Lol, parents couldn't get children to listen to their generations music if they tried |

Oh I have to disagree there my eldest who admittedly dances to his own tune in life, can't stand new music and chooses to listen to mostly 60's music (not my generation) and considers Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and others I've never heard of to be his musical heroes. |

Getting back to the original point about national anthems, and maybe slightly off topic, I read that if Scotland had achieved their independence dream, one of the songs in the running for National Anthem would have been Amy Macdonald's "Pride"
Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a modern uplifting yet passionate and patriotic anthem like that, rather than the dreary God Save Brenda that we have to endure at the moment |

Because every country wants a national anthem which includes the words:
"Sweat drips down my spine"!
And there is already a longstanding Scottish National Anthem, which would not be abandoned.

No, GSTQ is sung at prestigious events. That song sounds like something you'd get at a barn dance. |
