There’s talk of scraping Fathers Day and replacing it with ‘Mothers Day 2-The reckoning’. Is this a step to far or are men getting what they deserve now from the radical feminists ? |

I heard that feminist scientist researchers at the Women's Institute are secretly engineering a virus to induce Neeson Blindness Disorder (NBD) in the male population, leaving us emasculated without the spiritual sustenance of the Taken franchise. |

So basically it's a remake of fathers day with an all female cast and it's being forced down our throats...

"Ghostbusters 2016 all over again.
Never seen it, any good?!
5.3 on IMDB and loss making at the box office. So, no. "
Its budget was $144 million, it took $229.1 million at the box office. It would take inventive maths to call that a loss.
And the film’s rating was famously targeted by men’s rights activists at launch, hammering it with 0 ratings when they hadn’t even seen it, driving down the ratings on all the major sites. |

You know how I said earlier about basic prerequisite knowledge of subjects? In this case it's the fact that you don't understand the difference between gross profit and net profit. You also can't be bothered to do a simple google search like "Ghostbusters 2016 makes loss" which would have given you the answer. |

A simple (apt) search on that term fills my screen with links to alt-right and men’s rights activist sites, who were determined for the film to be a flop from the moment it the trailer hit YouTube. You’ll forgive me, I’m sure, for not placing much stock in those.
I do understand the difference between gross and net, thanks. I’m trying to remember which podcast it was that discussed the film’s reception, and indicated that the film was not the loss-maker it had been painted as.
If it was a loss, I’ll take that one on the chin. Largely because box office isn’t the most reliable indicator of the quality of a film. |

You need to add the marketing budget onto the direct costs, factor in the percentage of the box office that the studio gets and then add back in merchandise and other revenue streams. The studio said breakeven would be a box office office $300m and the Director said $500m would be a "low" take for "a movie like this". As you confirmed, it didn't get close to that. |

"What has this got to do with the ops thread "
In many respects, quite a lot. The question posed in the OP is about the fragility of male egos when they think that women are taking what the believe is rightfully theirs. In that respect, there are fewer more apt films to discuss than the Ghostbusters reboot and its reception. Brokenbrillopads can be flippant about ‘conspiracy’ all he wants, there was an undeniable MRA backlash to that film, and a widely recognised concerted effort to discredit it purely because of its all-female cast.
The best thing about it was watching grown men trying to frame a twenty year old, poorly aged, awfully scripted kids’ film as some sort of great cinematic benchmark. |

The best thing about it was watching grown men trying to frame a twenty year old, poorly aged, awfully scripted kids’ film as some sort of great cinematic benchmark."
That’s two people on this thread that understood what I meant then. |

"Parents should be called Mother 1 and Mother 2.
parent 1 and parent 2 I would have thought? Hmm what do I know!
What if they aren't their biological parent? This thing is a fucking minefield? How do you attribute 1 and 2 rankings? You simply haven't thought this through! "

"What has this got to do with the ops thread
In many respects, quite a lot. The question posed in the OP is about the fragility of male egos when they think that women are taking what the believe is rightfully theirs. In that respect, there are fewer more apt films to discuss than the Ghostbusters reboot and its reception. Brokenbrillopads can be flippant about ‘conspiracy’ all he wants, there was an undeniable MRA backlash to that film, and a widely recognised concerted effort to discredit it purely because of its all-female cast.

It also highlights how troubling feminists and their male allies find facts and statistics. |

"You know how I said earlier about basic prerequisite knowledge of subjects?
Largely because box office isn’t the most reliable indicator of the quality of a film."
Snidey little insulting dig in there. Nice work.... |

I really did hate that ghostbusters movie though and it was because of the all female cast and the attitude that came with it, honestly id of hated any remake or reboot as the originals were so epic and I hate when they mess with old classics like even these new jurassic world movies suck compared to the original...
But this ghostbusters was an actual joke, I feel that they did play up on the fact it was all female, they had the biggest hardest superhero Thor playing the pretty dumb blond receptionist who would cover his eyes whenever he heard loud noises, who couldnt understand how to use a phone, and when shit went down at the end where was he? he was off getting a sandwich. At the end when they were fighting the main boss battle to save the day, they defeated him by kicking him in the balls. The only good thing about it was that the original ghostbusters made appearances throughout the movie and they even went and killed bill murray They made a complete joke of one of the best classic movies ever made. |

Kristen Wigg was in it and that’s a good enough reason to see anything. |

Well I'm not really sure what funny means in the context of an actor reading a script? Has she done stand up as well?
Funny how? Let me understand this, maybe it's me, maybe I'm a little fucked up, she's funny how? Funny like she's a clown? She amuses you? What the fuck is so funny about her? How is she funny? |

"Making a sequel to Ghost Busters would have bombed with a male cast never mind female.
You couldn’t improve on the first two whoever was cast imo.
Anyway what was the question again?
"
It was rated quite favourably by kids under 13. Good studios know how to make films that kids and adults love (e.g. shrek). The script is appealing to kids but has nothing to offer adults. |
