I'm in for an emotional day today.

Been asked to my best friends coffin. How do I go about carrying him?

Is it hard? Heavy?

I'm really nervous now

Sending big hugs. Take a deep breathe, and be strong, it's the last thing you can do for your friend, take pride in it.x

I'm just absolutely shutting it now. Everyone watching. What if I can't lift? What if I drop him

It can be heavy but listen to the advice from the pallbearers and it should be fine

You won't don't worry the funeral directors will help you lift and will make sure you are stable before you try. My mum was carried by her teenage grandchildren as they all wanted to do it. BUT If you can't do it don't worry it won't matter the funeral directors will have full staff to take over so just see how you feel and tell the funeral directors your worries. Big hugs

I'm sorry for your loss xx Usually there are enough people helping carry that the load isn't too much, emotionally I can imagine it will be one of the hardest things you'll do though. Seek comfort in those around you, who will be sharing your feelings x

My female cousin was one of 6 pall bearers for her mum. The weight is distributed between you, you'll be fine.

Carried my Mothers coffin at her funeral. It’s not as hard as you think. Also the undertakers explain everything to you. Yes I was nervous too but once I started carrying it, I was OK.

I helped carry my dad in. It is heavy but there's no need to be nervous as you'll have lots of people around to help. Wishing you all the best

He won't be too heavy for 4 or more of you. Think of it as you last chance to give your pal a hug. Many don't get that.

Lift with your legs, every step will be hard, every step will be heavy. Lighten each one with a fond memory to cherish and with a heavy heart put a good friend to rest.

I understand your worries and concerns OP, a lot of emotions flying around. As others have said the funeral directors will help and the weight will be distributed between you all. I’m so sorry to read of your loss, it’s a hard and heavy thing to bear emotionally

You will be very proud to carry your best friend and don't worry. My nephews carried their Grandma , my mum, along with other members, of the family ,they cried all the way into church. I was so proud of them, as would my mum have been. Cherish the moment...

You are bound to be nervous it's a big thing to do for your friend and you're obviously emotional too, but you will be absolutely fine.

I’ve done it a fair few times, it is quite heavy but the undertakers will decide if it requires 4 or 6 bearers, the weight is spread over all of you, get yourselves in height order, it’s not difficult and I have always seen it as an honour to do. Good luck and don’t worry, you’ll be reet.

Sorry to hear about the OP's loss but it seems mighty strange to post updates on a casual sex site full of internet strangers.

I can't be the only one thinking this?

Done it for my dad and my uncles.

Funeral directors will help.

The strength you will need most is emotional strength.

Take heart from the fact that you will be helping him on his final journey.
