That would be amazing right now. I'd go to America and start fresh. Create a new life for myself. I'd sell my frigging soul for that opportunity.

Indeed but while I still have parents and grandparents I'm afraid I shall be staying put. Once anything happens to them it will be a whole new ballgame

St Peter Port

When work and life stresses build up, there's always a little voice saying "run away to the hills".

One day I might listen.

Left home aged 11?? Assuming you had somewhere safe to go? A new place to call home?

I've spent most of my adult life running to a certain extent..

As for living the dream, its hardly that but it will do for now

Yes!!!

Only if I can take my daughter and pooch with me.

And my job.

And my house, I quite like my house, and I’ve spent years renovating it.

And my cat.

And my car.

Fuck it!! I’m staying

I did that 30 years ago - it was tough, but the right thing to do...

Unfortunately, you can't run away from the memories in your head - they will always haunt you...

I ended up on a street corner, my possessions in a plastic bag, no money, no home, no family or friends - but the life that I have rebuilt is mine and mine alone!

If you need to do it, then just go - it's hell to get though, but it makes you a stronger person...

If you need to rely on a lotto win to back you up - you'll never do it!

Do it for real - walk out with nothing, and start again...

There are some aspects of my life that I would most definitely want to keep. Other bits I’d happily walk away from. I will sometime.

Yes I did it when I was 18 ! I do not regret it ! But still go back visit friends and family !

But feels really different ! I studied , I have a job , travelled different countries ,have my little corner ,a son who is polite and clever !

I am happy but I look back just to admire and visit ! Not staying !!

Regularly away I think this. If it wasn't for my children and other loved ones I would do it.

I just need to have another shit at living my life and I'd do it all differently.

But I have my children, my health and I'm happy on The while becyse I've home to accept my situation isn't perfect but I'm making the most of my life by working hard and playing harder.

I really don't. I've lost a lot of people that I'm close to through them dying. I did uproot my life and relocate to help family which I've found hard especially now they are gone as I don't know anyone. But on the same point I feel lucky to be here, lucky to have the life I have and lucky to have freedom and health so I tend to try and value what I've got rather than what I don't have

Hiding in the shadows

Not America, but I moved halfway accross the country & started a new life.

Apart from not seeing my mum everyday, my only life regret, it was the best thing I ever did.

It's awesome to hear that people have done it and made a success of it. Good on you guys. As for why I haven't done it... money and I'm fucking terrified. I don't really have any ties keeping me here, I'm not particularly close with my family, they've done too much shady shit for me to really wanna stay for them.

I don't know, maybe one day I'll find the courage to actually do it, but right now I've got a lot to think about.

I’m actually on the cusp of doing this, just putting my shit in order, getting rid of possessions and generally simplifying my life.

I backpacked to Oz and Nz in 2002,2003 and have lived in California for a few months.

I’ve realised it’s when I’m at my best and converting it from ‘traveling’ to ‘life’

Deep down YOU know the answer as you can’t lie to yourself.

any town

We are starting a 5 year plan to sell up and move to somewhere like New Zealand or Canada. Ireland is a fantastic country but we just want more than what we have here. We can’t even explain it. We both work in good jobs, nice house in the country, two cars and nice things and friends. Sounds ungrateful but everyday life is just full of non stop monotonous stuff.

No - I love my kids/Mum/family etc far too Mitch to cut and run!

However - I’d quite like to have a time machine and go back and make different choices! I certainly wouldn’t be 49, skint and in a crap job if I could do it all again! I’d still want my 3 babies though - even though they make me even more skint!

If circumstances and opportunities allowed I'd do it in a flash - until then though I have a roof over my head, can pay the bills and other things to be thankful for

Agree. We had nothing 10 years ago and has taken a while to get where we are now. We both were made redundant from what was crappy jobs in the same year and 2 months after getting married. Got ourselves back on a life we needed but we still want that little bit more. Hence the 5 year plan from this January

I think you can only leave the physical parts. Your past and your feelings will go with you.

I've moved around a fair bit. I don't feel better for it.

I'd like to find a place I feel content and can put down roots.

If you are going on your own you may like to check out an internet site www.thelmaandlouise.com. Its a site for women who want to find others to travel with and covers the world. Great for people travelling who may want to meet others at certain stages. I went to India with 3 women from there and had a great time.

A time machine is what I'd love the most. I'd be happy with staying if I could just go back and do things differently.
