Cheese and Fruit...not a euphemism
Jump to: Newest in thread
So, got into a debate with friends about the relative merits of cheese with fruit.
My (male, if that makes a difference) friends insisted that fruit does NOT (in general) go with cheese.
I beg to differ.
NOT that I'd appreciate grapefruit with a nice bleu, but....Camembert with cranberry? Cheddar and apple? Brie and strawberry?
I just love cheese of any sort, and fruit sweetens it all up.
What's you opinion?
Cheese and fruit? yay or nay? |

"Grapes and Apple are nice with cheese.
Cheese and pineapple on a stick are the nuts."
I had cheese and pineapple (left over from pizza making) tonight, lovely! |

They’re really very wrong. I’ve never ordered a cheeseboard in a restaurant and not had it come with grapes.
Then there’s, as you point out, Brie and cranberry, cheddar and apple. Most cheese and chutney sets have got a fair few fruity chutneys in there.
You could be pedantic and point out that tomato is a fruit, and cheese and tomato is a staple.
I like Stilton and grapes with port. Smoked cheese and a Pink Lady apple are the perfect accompaniment to a hoppy IPA. A cheese and raspberry (or strawberry, if you’re that way inclined) jam sandwich is the bees knees. |

Actually salivating.
