And here I am, right on queue.. 
There are a finite number of “Professions” ! People employed in those professions are entitled to call themselves “Professional”
Some on here are in those professions and the rest who use the term are snobs! I wouldn’t use it as I see it as pretentious! But in the spirit of Fab… Each to their own…

I suspect that it is used to offer some indication of their "culturedness" in the context of fab. You know a certain level of chat, banter and intellectual intercourse. But just how much of that will yas be doing?  |

It is also correct to use "professional" to distinguish from being an amateur though usually used together with a descriptor eg professional golfer, professional footballer etc.
