i take it as someone who has a very public job ... like us .... publicans .... we know swingers who work in the jobcentre etc

There are a finite number of “Professions” ! People employed in those professions are entitled to call themselves “Professional”

Some on here are in those professions and the rest who use the term are snobs! I wouldn’t use it as I see it as pretentious! But in the spirit of Fab… Each to their own…

I suspect that it is used to offer some indication of their "culturedness" in the context of fab. You know a certain level of chat, banter and intellectual intercourse. But just how much of that will yas be doing?

It is also correct to use "professional" to distinguish from being an amateur though usually used together with a descriptor eg professional golfer, professional footballer etc.

We both work in the public sector, and use the 'proffesional tag' meaning we need to be descrete
