It's around 90 minutes to Cancun (50 miles); not sure that I would bother making the trip.
Playacar is a fairly nice 'gated' community but the security doesn't keep out the locals.
Playa del Carmen is just a couple of miles away with more shops (Tommy Hilfiger da Salva) 5th Avenue, bars (12th avenue) and restaurants.
Beach; consider the beach in Playa del Carmen north from 48h St, just around the tip where Canibal Royal sits. Take your own drinks and snacks as the only outlet is (still, probably) in CR; the beach is generally much quieter than others with really good snorkeling.
Definitely go to visit some Mayan ruins (Chichen Itza, Tulum, Ek Balam) and the Cenotes!
Remember to pack your sunscreen, get travel insurance, and keep vigilant.
Watch for property theft, ATM skimming and knock off goods including jewellery, take care on the roads (RTI's are really common).
Don't get into a taxi if the driver has a 'friend' with him, don't go searching or accepting to buy drugs, don't walk on deserted beaches at night. |
