After the thread which suggested Ronaldo was the worlds best player , there were still a few people saying Messi was the better player .

So , do you still think he is now ?

How are Argentina with all that talent so bad ?

How is he so ordinary when he plays for them ?

The team selection and tactics are all over the place. There's no style of play or understanding between the Argentine players. One man can only do so much. Argentina as a team aren't great. They're lucky to even be at the world cup

Great point, you could say he's under pressure having to carry the team but Ronaldo carries the Portugal team no problem so he has no excuse, Having a shite goal keeper does you no favours though

He doesn’t seem to be able to drive a team the way Ronnie does. Some will say that’s a detraction. I think it’s more down to his style of play. Ronaldo is a machine.

On paper they are a much better team than Portugal , so one man can make a huge difference . Ronaldo does that for Portugal , Messi doesn’t for Argentina in the big games . He’s virtually non existent and 3-0 to Croatia ?

If you want to watch Ronaldo have a good game then watch the highlights.

If you want to watch Messi have a good game then watch the whole match.

Apart from tonight when He and Argentina have been rubbish.

Croatia are a great team. Messi has been to many international finals with Argentina. He's their top goal scorer and dragged them to this world cup and many finals they narrowly lost. I prefer Messi. Ronaldo has had a better tournament definitely. Sometimes it comes down to conditions and luck. Portugal have a stubbornness and toughness Argentina don't have that.

Argentina... oh dear

Modric’s goal was sublime!

Maradonna’s gonna have to do some sniff tonight to put that performance out of his mind

Even if they played them both together they would let goals in

I have a feel there is no unity in the team, ego problem between players and no good relationship with managers. It looked like Chelsea team under Jose last season..

Can’t take anything away from Croatia they played great!

Defended very very well against a very strong attacking side!

But the Argentine Keeper is shite!

Although the goals were very good

I have a feeling that this may well be remembered as Ronaldos World Cup, and will be the stick the people use in years to come whenever the argument comes up as to who was better

Ronaldo a much better player, he pulls the whole team together. He works much harder than any of his team mates.

Messi is good but none of his teammates are there to help him, it was a broken team, they did not play together. He had no one to help him at all

Ronaldo is the best

Argentina on the brink of elimination.

Brazil struggled first game out, could they be next?

Germany, I fancy Sweden might do a job over them and finish them off on Saturday.

Happy days?

I feel this world cup will be Kane's world cup, Hat trick on Sunday puts him on 5 and into the lead for golden boot, go on Arry son

Very happy to see Argentina lose.

Disgraceful tackles

I’m fortunate to have seen George Best, live, in his prime, Cryuff playing for Barcelona live and Pele live in 1971, difficult to compare eras I know, but put George Best on a modern pitch with modern boots and ball and he would be unbeatable.

For me, Messi is the better player and technically more gifted, but I’d have Ronaldo every day. You need to build a team around Messi, which is why he’s so good for Barca and not for Argentina who have to many other great players to accommodate. Ronaldo would slot into any side and improve them from day one.

Simple, he is not and should not be captain.

He should be free to play football

A game of cards too. Fell apart after the gifted goal. Weight of expectation was too much pressure on a mentally fragile team. Now that sounds familiar

Messi is not a leader...... He can’t will his team to win....They played like France after Zidon and Henry left the team. They had no leader to calm them down and get them focused in crunch time...

I think Brazil has the same problem with Naymar

Both teams kicked the ship out of each other. Suppose one team had to win but I didn't like how either team were trying to go about it.

Some great goals and the Argie fans ain't so cocky now. I hope Brazil take the piss out of them.

Ronaldo for that Ballon Dor thing.

It's because the defence and midfield is rubbish there stacked going forward but weak in the other areas they struggled to qualify so shouldn't be too surprised how bad they are
