I’m watching a documentary on Netflix. It’s about sex robots. There’s one guy on it who wants to have sex with robots, but until things become more available to him, he edits photos of his girlfriend so she looks more like a robot.

He has decided that the next ‘step’ is to hypnotise his girlfriend to become more robotic in the bedroom.

There was men saying they want a robot to have sex with as they’ll never say no, they can’t argue back with you and they will always be ready to please you. (There are probably more points but these were the main ones).

They also predict that people will be in relationships with sex robots by 2050.

How does everyone feel about this? Do you see the appeal?

I don’t want to offend anyone on here but I don’t see the appeal either. One man made a sex robot called Roxy and took her to a sex convention to advertise her. His wife did Roxy’s hair and makeup!!

Currently there is one man who is telling his friends (male and female) about his desire to marry and fuck a sex robot. His female friend is making very good points and questioning him (questions such as ‘if you love a sex robot, would it not distort your image of real women?’) and his male friend is sat in silence. I think as with every technological advance there are good sides and bad sides.

The men who see women as little more than walking vaginas who can do housework will have that opinion reinforced. However it might mean that real flesh and blood women might be spared their attentions.

The ethical questions this throws up are numerous and not answerable by the likes of me.

Dont see the appeal at all. Sex isnt just about sex. Say something happens during sex, like one of you slips off the bed or bangs you head on the wall. I want to be able to laugh about it. Not just get back to it with something unfeeling

Well swinging with robots could potentially be easier than humans.

No bullshit, they can send a pic from 10yrs ago but won't have lost teeth, gained half their body weight again, developed a sunroof, or turned grey.

No preferences makes it easy from the off. Meeting a couple of robots means noone is taking one for the team.

No awkward coffee meets to see what someone has omitted from their profile/pics.

Though I feel the robots voice could be equally annoying as somw humans - but I guess the robot can be muted so again they probably win.

Its surely no stranger buying a robot than meeting strangers off the internet for sex...

A relationship with a robot? I'm not feeling that haha but if cooks the tea, clears up after the kids, and cleans the house I might chuck it an "I love you" once in a while

Yeah I get your point, I just don’t see the appeal. I like meeting real people, and yes there’s shitty people, but your robot will have a very plain ‘personality’ (can you call it that?). Plus, what if your robot breaks? Will cost a hell of a lot to fix it or buy another

I much prefer meeting real people too and I do not envisage that changing, BUT there are many people on this site who, because of their circumstances, need and crave sexual satisfaction, but they get messed about by unscrupulous people - and many of them may well get better satisfaction from a robot than from the 'real' people they are stuck with in real life.

Probably a good idea for the sort of people where a normal relationship is not viable for whatever reason. Keep them away from real people.

God knows. I go for robot. I just think they need to be more advanced that I think they are, sanitary wise, movement etc. It just seems odd to me and I don’t get the appeal. But of course I wouldn’t want them to go to someone who is a victim of trafficking

Maybe one day brothels will just be super advanced robots. Just curious to see how far as a society we will go

More human-like robot production will be driven by the demand for repopulating human jobs with robots in future, with a spin-off being that we can also have the shaggable ones.

Artificial Intelligence is closer to being able to have a conversation with you and improvements to synthetic voices means that it won't sound like you're in Stephen Hawking's pants and he's talking dirty again.

The first thing we're likely to get will be very lifelike robots that aren't so skilled at moving: these could work better for the type of person that just wants someone to lie there whilst they shag them.

The rest of us would prefer a real human/human like experience, so they'd move and do everything as if they're human: surely much more of complex thing to achieve, all the subtle ways that we move etc.

As more of society gets poorer, who would afford these things? Less people working etc. Would you share your robot with mates? Or just have some gangbangs with robots, as it's easier for a group of guys to fix, than off fab

I’m not making a case for it in particular, but how is it impossible to consider it couldn’t be the “if the urge presents, use this” AND the other techiques we’ve been discussing.... as a means to allow time for healthy relationships to bed in? I dunno.

Alongside my continued belief that what we need also is better early intervention and preventative work. Who at the moment feels safe to go to their GP and say I’m having these impulses and I don’t know what to do...? It’s pushed so underground because it’s so emotive a topic (which I’m not negating), and that concerns me.

The more likely scenario is that they are on a slippery slope but haven't acted on it. These dolls would act as a gateway to fuels their desire, not one that takes it away.

Because it reinforces the very behaviour that you’re trying to alter. Methodone is great and dealing with withdrawal from heroin, but it does not replicate the effects of heroin on the user. You’re treating the physical symptoms of heroin addiction, while moving the heroin user away from the ‘ceremony’ and escape of actual heroin use. A robot sex child would be like giving the addict an exact replica of heroin, which they took in the same way, and expecting it to not make them go out and find the real thing again.

You’re absolutely right that the societal reaction to paedophilia (and hebephilia and ephebephilia) has created a culture where those who did not choose their sexual desires are too scared to seek the help they need. It’s unfortunate that those most actively opposed to it (the various online expose groups, for example) are actually doing significant damage in that respect. But the psychological impact of allowing that use of a robot would not assist the prevention, in a few possible ways.

Much better, as current programmatic work does, to instead rebalance sexual desires and, with immediate effect, shift focus away from deviant preferences.

While you’re generally right in the rest of your post, it’s worth noting that, even in that instance, there is still preventative work to be done. They won’t be in prison forever. (But it’s still not right to give them sex robot kids.)

BB and DO, yes I concur, I was just mulling it out loud. But yes, DO you detail more specifically the issue - BB, I was meaning by the way, as part of a controlled recovery programme for those that are being offender managed, not as a gateway to something - but DO has addressed the issue. And I’m playing devil’s advocate a little as well as trying to be creative in wondering about novel approaches.

And yes, I get so frustrated about the latter issue.
