I thought I’d got over this issue of receiving letters addressed to my late husband. Then out the blue I get one from BT in his name and his old company name, but to our home address. It’s been 3 years to the month since he had any involvement with the company.
So I contact BT business first then residential and neither will help. The latter basically telling me to go away because I can’t provide full details Ie. The account number. Most sensible companies have asked for copy of the death certificate, but not BT.
If they wish to keep on writing to him, perhaps I should redirect the mail to his final residence |

"Computors send them out randomly,i doubt it was a person who sent that out"
Plus, you can ask your local delivery office to kill off any mail with that name on it |

Write on letter
"This person is deceased do not send anymore"
Royal mail will send it back to bt,and in turn bt should log the info down |

I’m going to send it back with the live chat transcript of their oh so helpful member of staff and a copy of the death certificate.
Thanks for your help. |

I think it is best not to ask for all letters to your late husband to be "killed off" (as the poster tactlessly calls it) as sometimes things arrive you don't know about. For example three years after my husband died he got a letter to say two Virgin ISAs had matured that I knew nothing about until then. |

It does sound tactless, considering my husband has been killed off and is no longer a live male. "

I have been with Virgin Media for years. Even when my husband was alive it was me who paid the bill, through my account but because HE opened the account they still refer to him and tell me that my account is secondary and won't give me information.
NOW ....... they had NO problem taking the money all these years. They NEVER said to me hey this is your husbands account we can't take your money. Only when I want an engineer or information do they say ....... ooooooooo you are not the main account holder.
BTW ....... husband has been dead a long time. STILL they see ME as secondary. |

I'll back this up, I worked for Royal Mail for 20 years and it is indeed a company terminology, although maybe not the best thing to say in the case of deceased people it's just the way it is! |

I had a right old time with Sky for similiar, although my ex hasn't passed away. Getting them to delete the account even though they'd been taking the money out of my account for the last five years was a bloody pain. |

It's likely to be 'slang' among workers but I doubt it's official terminology to use with customers dealing with mail for deceased loved ones.
Where I work we use all sorts of 'in' lingo but none of it goes outside the walls officially. |

The official terminology is tactless, but it's nothing compared to someone typing "ITS ALL KILLED OFF!!" in block capitals, (complete with exclamation marks no less), on a thread that people are discussing their late husbands. |

Jesus.... How tactless can you get
I get that it's called that back at base but there is no service offered by the Royal mail by that name.
Unless of course you can show me where royal mail refer to it on their website? |

I had an email/snotty reminder today for my late fathers gas service contract. He died last October, they were notified. we cancelled the services when the property sold in May, but still got bills. I got a little short with the agent today and hopefully it's finally sorted. |

I think there is a call for a one stop shop where you tell one service of someone's passing and they deal with all of this for you. Having gone through it recently when my grandad passed away it really is an awful thing to keep going over the same information time and time again.
i know some councils have a 'tell us once' service. |
