" Guess it's life history time; I was listening to grunge through school, being the cliché bullied kid pretty much all the way through my education. My first boss got me into a bunch of first wave, stateside, and uk82 punk. So bottled up angst, and having a job from sixteen, therefore money, I was turning punk when I was eighteen. A little important place called le phonographique in Leeds pretty much broke me, I'm conjunction with mtvs rock shows. I got into placebo, so I mixed glam into the look too (to be honest, I probably looked a right state). Slowly metal crept in, and I ended up swapping out punk for thrash, sludge, industrial, and nu metal. I bummed around that scene for a good few years, but it got stale, mainly due to the same songs being played in every club. I did a bit of raving from around the age of twenty four, till I was thirty. it was fun running around with dayglo on, though the few days after were always ropey. Eventually, the comedowns were too much and I jacked that in and just kinds milled around for a while. Then I started downloading music, after years of refusal, and ended up getting back into metal, much harder than before. it's been nine years now, and I've thrown myself right in there, and gone down the extreme route. I still believe The Specials did so much to ease tensions and unite people and deserve some recognition for this, They achieved more than the politicians during this period for racial harmony." Wasn't just The Specials though, The Selecter, The Beat, UB40 and to a lesser extent Madness all helped ease things - in fact just last week I had a conversation with Dave Wakeling (The Beat) in which we talked about how a lot of that music has come to have a relevance again today with some of the tensions that are bubbling under and being propagated by the likes of EDL, Britain First etc. | |||

It was the whole ska movement. would never have called myself a skinhead as the negative connotations were horrible (even if not 100% correct) | |||
