I've spent an hour searching the net rspca etc, cant find anything, is there shelters where i can take him ?

any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Does it need to be one of those options. can you not try and rehome him?

maybe ask around, mates of mates and so on, am sure you would feel better knowing he was going to be in a loving home rather than in a dogs home.

Notting

pkease try the Blue Cross rehoming shelters, they do a really good job and wont let animals be put to sleep.

How old, what breed, good with kids etc, as i also have a good friend who i used to work with who spends alot of his time rehoming dogs all over the place. I could email him with details but he does usually mainly deal with "lost causes" so do try Blue Cross xxx

Other thing to do is ask in at your local vets. Older people who have their long time friends put to sleep will often take on older dogs rather than get a new puppy. Most will let you put a notice up and try to help.

Good luck. xx

just a thought, do you have any dog walkers advertised in your local paper. mine knows every dog owner in the town it seems, and always seems to know if anyones dog has died. it might be worth a try that they know someone who is looking.

he sounds lovely btw, if i did not have my mad dog already i would take him xx

Sometimes have a nose through these forums but never been inclined to post before....thats horrid for you, you could try the dogs trust the also wont put a healthy dog to sleep. Some areas have really good breed societies that have rehoming programmes you might find one near you by searching online or try contacting a local breeder

i too have a westie, called meg and she is 8 years old and would be devastated leaving her.

friends of mine. well her mum was getting on and had a border collie. this dog was her world. the mum got poorly and had no choice but to leave her home in wales to come to liverpool to go into a home. anyhow the dog got allocated to foster parents, who in turn went on to keep the dog. all ended well.

wish you luck as it is not an easy decision to make

It's a terrible possition to be in.

We have a 14 year old Staffy,to us he's part of the family, theres no way we could part with him no more than we could any other member of the family,no matter what.

It just wouldn't be an option.

Could you not find a house where the landlord is pet friendly, they do exist,or what about another family member who know him and where you could still see him regularly?.

Failing all that, the best but last option would probably be a specialist rescue centre, they're excellent.

Try googleing The Westie Rescue Centre etc,see what comes up.

Best of luck!

If you cannot find any place for your dog try advertising him here free to a good home :

http://uk.freeads.net/

They have a massive pets section, we got a dog from there a year ago

I would place an ad.. Local paper.

But please please check who the dog goes to.. go round with the dog and see how they are with him.

Feeling very sad for you... really we are, heartbreaking!

You read a lot on here about timewasters etc etc, but you guys have proved what a fabulous site this is. Guess I know where to go next time I need help of any kind xxxx

And I am chuffed to bits you found a home for your lovely Westie, have one myself and know just how awful you must have felt xxx
