Soooo I have really bad ribs from coughing. To be extent that I can hardly move! Muscles between ribs in agony. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, muscle rub, hot water bottle, hot bath. All tried. Limited result.

Anyone got any ideas?

Perhaps nice cuddles?

You sure it's muscle? It is possible to crack ribs from coughing. I'd go get it checked out

No advice I’m afraid. I have a sore everything from coughing as well.

It’s terrible when you have a sore everything but I think I’ll live

If it’s muscular, stick an ice pack on it, that’ll help calm down any inflammation.

If you’ve cracked a rib, just have to ride it out. Takes about 4 weeks to improve. I cracked a few ribs boxing training a couple of months back and it really hurt to breathe for ages.

It sounds like you have pulled your intercostal muscles and if that is the case all you can do is to carry on what you have been doing with the hot bath and the muscle rub and it will get better on its own over about a week.

Thing is, if it is cracked ribs, there’s nothing more that can be done anyway.

Pleurisy is in theory ruled out as lungs sound fine.

If it gets worse not better contact a gp. Not that I wanna scare you but pleurisy can have those symptoms.

You might have got costochondritis. It's not serious but is incredibly painful. It can last quite a while too. I've had it a couple of times and wanted to cry every time I coughed, sneezed, breathed in, lay down.

Pleurisy is a fkn nightmare, had it 4 times and double pneumonia twice (I'm just falling to pieces).

Be careful around people with colds and flu, as your immune system will now be lowered xx

Hubby gets pleurisy and pneumonia because his lungs have been scorched before. He knows he has it without any symptons and with coughing cracked his ribs. so be careful and if it gets worse then GP

See gp ask for better pain relief..

naproxen works better for ribs

You could always try co-codamol instead of paracetamol. You can buy co-codamol over the counter (8/500mg)

Or ur gp can prescribe (30/500mg)

Not 100% but lungs and chest seem clear. Could be broken ribs but nothing they can do for that anyway x

Unfortunately, my immune system is totally compromised because of the MS, so I tend to catch anything and everything lol xx
