I think there's a very fine line between banter and going beyond it though, particularly if you don't know someone.
I also often find that "it was only banter" is too often rolled out as a means of excusing unacceptable behaviour not only on the forums but in life in general. |

Precisely this! I generally find the phrase ‘it was only banter’ is the last line of defence for offensive behaviour |

To me banter would be having a laugh and a flirt with someone... I wouldn’t do that with someone who I didn’t really know and I wouldn’t take it to a point that’s uncomfortable! X |

Banter usually means "I'm not bothered by what I just said, so neither should you be bothered." |

I loathe the term banter. I banned it’s use at work as it was rolled out as the go to excuse for frankly unacceptable behaviour nauseatingly often.
Some people offend more easily than others, here and in real life.
However people seem to delight in being obnoxious at every given opportunity and then screaming “just banter” “only joking” “LOL” when they are challenged. (Again here and in real life). |
