I set my postcode to places that I'm going to be visiting yet I receive so many messages saying that I must be in currently in that area as I'm showing on the 'who's near'. I've been informed that's because of GPRS.

I'm currently in Co Durham yet I'm showing as in the Midlands because of my postcode change. I also have my location services switched off on my phone too so it can't possibly go off GPRS, am I wrong?

I do get that the postcode puts you as showing in the area, but people are telling me it goes on GPRS signal. It can't possibly,

It is, but what I'm saying is people are telling me location goes on GPRD, not the postcode. Not sure I'm getting my point across here very well

Just a background character

Local search/browse uses the location/postcode set in user profile, whereas "who's near" uses the device's GPS location.

We live in County Durham and your profile is saying your home and current location is 180+ miles away.

Not sure which postcode you currently have set but hope this helps x

Oh I'm confused. Basically, I have my postcode set as East Midlands, yet I'm in Co Durham. Im telling people that I'm currently in Co Durham but people are saying it's not possible for me to be as GPS is saying I'm near Leicester, which I'm nowhere near.

Don't you also have to have location services switched on for GPS to work?

over by there

Hi

You're showing as 120 miles from me in south Wales. If we were clever we could triangulate.

Anyway I would have thought if you have Location Services off you wouldn't be in people's Who's near. Although if you have turned it on at some point it might take your last known location and not revert back to postcode.

Nat x

It sometimes stores your last GPS location.

I turned my who's near on whilst in Edinburgh then returned to Bristol and it still showed me as in Edinburgh until I turned it on again.

Have you tried briefly turning location on then turning it back off again?

Evesham

Try using 'what3words' as an update.

Download the app and you can use it to pinpoint your location to about ten square feet, or put in a location where you want people to meet up with you.

Otherwise turn your phone off and on and then turn location settings on.

Good luck xx

Aberdeenshire

OP, the “Who’s near” uses a mix of postcode and GPS. It works better with GPS, because that gives the site a more precise location, but if GPS is off, it will still give people a distance to you, using other information the device provides.

You have to have location services turned on to show up where you actually are.

Thank you. People won't believe me when I say I'm in Co Durham. They are arguing saying I'm in Leicester
