Especially so seeing it was a suicide. First came across his kitchen confidential about 20 years ago and have followed his books/ exploits intermittently ever since -a real waste of a great talent and a sad loss to the whole culinary world. |

I loved it when he'd visit some chef in the middle of knowhere who'd only cook goat in a certain way and the family joined in, and they were so focused on what they were doing, and so skilled, thanks Tony dude you cheese loving bastard. |

i watch his "destination unknown" programme on LA last week and he was speaking to a lot of different communities there about the foods they have...
it will brilliantly funny when an ex-pat brit was trying to explain to him what proper "custard" was.....
anyway his shows were fantastic and his books were wonderful... i am no foodie but it is a brilliant read... oh and if you do read his books you'll never eat "eggs benedict" again.....  |

This is devastating. I was such a fan and loved him dearly. I got teary eyed when I found out. He inspired me to travel and go places I just never would have thought to go. I remember I went to Beirut and visited the same little Armenian restaurant he ate at and ordered the exact same thing. Spoke to the owners about his visit. It was great. Wherever he went, I tried to go. It really shook my soul that it was suicide. It goes to show you never really know what anyone is going through. That success cannot guarantee you against depression and unhappiness. And that for those of us with depression that it could easily be one of us. I’m so sorry he suffered and will miss him immensely. |
