So from my limited knowlage of ancient Greece causal sex was very normalised in society. People would fuck for leisure, as a mark of friendship or just simply to let of some steam. Sex and romantic relationships were as seen as perfectly separable. This is the way I see sex and no doubt most of us on here (Although there is always something extra special having sex with someone you love and totally connect with).
Now imagine if modern day Britain shared the ancient Greeks attitude to sex? How would the world look? What differences would it make to society if we all openly and freely fucked each other out simple universal love? Would this have a positive effect on society?

Isn't that, more or less, where we're at now? I'm sure there were Ancient Greeks who didn't want to participate, just as there are people now who prefer monogamy.

Now, I haven't had sex in over a year, I, as a person need to like who I am fucking (surprise surprise) Do you not think that social skills are now seriously lacking in people due to the internet and the I want it now attitude?
It's not that I am not looking, because I am, for me it is the attitudes of people that totally turn me off, hence the above comment and so the cycle continues...  |

Isn't that, more or less, where we're at now? I'm sure there were Ancient Greeks who didn't want to participate, just as there are people now who prefer monogamy.

I disagree that is where we're at now. For example sexual monogamy is still very much the expected norm in a relationship. Although society is breaking away from values that where probably brought by the church we still tie sex up healivy with romantic relationships, especially when one is part of a relationship. For most of Britain a dinner party doesn't end in an orgy, most people don't foster non romantic friendships with sex. Sex still to an extent means something different in our society than of the Greeks. |

I know a fair bit about ancient Roman sexual practices and relationships purely from a historical point of view but sod all about the Greeks except that in their army that male to male sexual relationships were encouraged to form stronger ties - your mate will fight harder to protect you. |

Don't think you get my drift. It's all about having sex with people you like. I not saying have sex with people you don't like. It's about sharing your self more intimately with friends and tightening bonds of friendship and common humanity. It's about seeing sex as tool of bonding and togetherness with the people (you like of course). |

Social skills is only lacking due to the way we communicate now over the internet(chatroom, email, phone, social media) and work life is not as flexible to even entertain face to face communication. |
