Mutton dressed as lamb

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

A debate was sparked recently when a woman claimed that women of a certain age should make more of an effort to dress sexily.

I disagree, any woman regardless of age should feel free to dress however they like.

Also the phrase 'mutton dressed as lamb' really gets my goat (pun intended). There's much said about age appropriate clothing and most of it unpleasant. I see no reason at all why the more mature woman shouldn't be free to dress in anything she likes if she likes it and it makes her feel good. It's no one else's business.

what is 'age appropriate' these days though?

I tend to wear what I feel comfortable in... and that includes leggings and short skirts

Women should wear low cut tops and short skirts so men can ogle them to use as wank fodder. Unless they're anything above 'curvy'- then they should stay indoors.

Does anybody dress entirely for their own satisfaction, or with a mind to how others will perceive them? If a woman is entirely alone on a desert island, will she still apply make-up and dress in her best frock if no-one else is around to appreciate the effort?

I thing whatever your age or sex, we should all feel free to do as we wish when it harms no-one.

And clothing is about as harmless as it gets. If you think someone looks awful, look away. They obviously like it.

However, friends giving each other constructive critism is altogether different.

I appreciate it when a friend tells me I look a bag of shite (which is a frequent occurence).

I have no idea what it means, i certainly don't think it's relevant any more. And i've see your pics, you'd look good in an Aberdeenshire seed potato sack.

That's a pretty extreme example, if anyone finds themselves in such a situation i'm sure they'd have more important things to worry about. Having said that i have met women who i'm sure still would given the chance.

I dress for me, except when my LTP says "Put a nice bra on".

I don't have any not nice bras, so his request is moot.

Why make the Op just about women? Men of a certain age can be judged by some as to how appropriate their choice of clothing is, but they do seem to be judged less.

Maybe this is another area of mindset that highlights underlining inequality.

Haven't read the thread sorry .

Women should wear what they want so should men. I do. A "friend" described my dress sense as daring and it wasn't intended as a compliment.

I dress to please Mr N some of the time. He's my partner and I like to wear things he likes seeing me in. Mind you some of the stuff he buys me is only suitable for private use .

Don't change a thing.

I suspect I will be wheeled out to sit on the seafront when I'm 103 wearing stilettos and a dress with a leather corset underneath

That will put some lead back into the old mens' pencils, if only they could remember why. "

Lol. Mr N and I shall entertain young men in our room at the old folks home...

"A debate was sparked recently when a woman claimed that women of a certain age should make more of an effort to dress sexily.

It's no one else's business."

Brilliant answer. Women should dress however they feel comfortable. Sexiness is something that comes from confidence within x

And it can't be enforced by what some might consider the norms of society.

Being a sensible mature woman, not as young as I once was,I was out last night wearing sensible, age appropriate footwear. On my way home,I stepped on a loose paving stone and sprawled across the road, winding myself, skinning my elbows and knees, twisting my ankle which is now painfully swollen and breaking my glasses.

After a passing gentleman had helped me up,sat me on a wall and offered to call me an ambulance,I continued on my way home, dishevelled and bleeding, with tears and mascara streaking my face.I spent today feeling very sorry for myself but,,,,, if I had been wearing ridiculously high heeled 'fuck me' stilletos,I would have taken a taxi home and none of that would have happened.

'Age apprpopriate and sensible'? Stuff that,,,I'm going 'mutton dressed as lamb' in future.Much safer.

I worry that I will end up looking as 'mutton dressed as lamb', and I'm even more aware of it now that my daughter is now into the same shops and style of clothing that I like.

I try to dress sexy but keep it classy. I gsce now reached an age too where I know which are my best assets and how I can dress to show them off without looking cheap.

I hope I do anyway.

I say bollocks to "age appropriate"

I will wear what I want and when I want!

PJ's being the obvious favorite (chavtastic )

I live in a town where everyone looks the same.

Like some sort of frightening new shade of beige yawn!

I’ve seen a lot of 55+ men dressed in very skinny jeans and tight shirts tonight. Men seem to get an easier time if they want to dress less age appropriately.

I saw a woman dressed head to toe in beige yesterday. Every single item plus beige scrunchie. It was amazing.
