Anyone had dreams careers they had to give up for any reason?
When I was at school all the way to college, I wanted to be an actor. I did well at Drama in my GCSEs and passed both courses at college. Why I gave up on that dream is because as I've gotten older, I've realised that it is too difficult to reach plus it could be a very stressful career. |

I have tried looking into other things but I don't think there is anything else I can do for a career. I'll just have to stick with the job I've been doing for the past 13 years. Working in a cinema isn't much but at least it gets me paid plus there are days off which is a good thing.
Acting, singing and dancing is the only thing I seem to be good at. I would do it as a hobby but with me living at home, I never have any time to myself. |

There and to the left a bit |
All through school I had one aim career wise and one aim only to the point I knew exactly what O Levels I needed and could tell the careers adviser more about my chosen career than they could tell me.
That dream floundered a little when I failed the interview board for the level I had chosen to join, but undeterred I decided to enter at a lower level and work my way up - a year later I started on that career path and within four months through a mixture of teenage arrogance and other influences I threw it away and then spent another 6 years bouncing from job to job until I found my current career - despite one of the reasons behind leaving my original chosen one being not wanting to spend 3 years doing something I didn't want to do even though it was a route to something I did!!
My originally chosen career? The Royal Navy and I have regretted leaving it behind ever since!! |

Quite the reverse.
I should of been a county cricketer, but I wasnt driven enough to attend the camps or do the work. I was only 12 when I first got noticed, now I just regret never realising what a great job that could have been.

In some ways yes... I loved the job I did before this one.. I love the team and the ‘clients’ and even though it was hard work and you often went without breaks and finished late it was worth it... until I got bullied and the managers made me life hell and sucked my soul dry... I’d been in the role for 15 years...
Anyway I finally found another job.. which I now do and I love it... absolutely love it... some of the things I find hard but that’s about finding a routine that works for me...
So even though bad things happen I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t become so unhappy in the first place... silver linings I guess xx |

I got my dream job in the RAF but was medically discharged.
I went back to my former career as a licensee but stopped when I was pregnant with my 2nd son.
I decided I wanted a 'child friendly' job, I got offered a job at a nursery & from that I trained to be a teacher, another job I fell in love with, sadly I had to quit thst due to one of my sons medical, health issues.
I've now got a job I love & built a successful business, as a PT.
All 4 have been dream jobs, throughout 4 decades of my life.
Wonder what my 50s will bring? |
