FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB

WEEK TWENTY THREE!!!

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Twenty Three!!!

How’s everyone doing? It seems you’re all being awesome as usual!

.

.

.

SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB... SEX CLUB...

LAST CHANCE!!!! RSVP to MrsTrellis by direct message now!!!

Coming:

MrsTrellis

Psylocke

Bitch

Twat

KinkyMare

Just-Drew

All a zillion maybes - please confirm!!

The FCRC sex-club social will be on 8 June at Vanilla Alternative from 8pm. Everyone is welcome. If you’ve never been to a club before, come along with us. It’ll be loads of fun to sit in the hot tub gossiping! There’s no obligation whatsoever to play with anyone. I can meet nervous newbies outside so we can go in together.

(Please note, you'll need to ensure you're a member of the club (Vanilla Alternative) and that you've booked a place for the event itself well in advance).

Please RSVP.

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving our fitness through running. None of us were natural athletes (I was a natural couch potato!) but we did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress.

Mrs Trellis x

PS - Don't forget to RSVP for the sex club social! All are welcome.

I've started and by fuck I'm fucked. No idea of distance yet as I'm starting way down at the bottom. So I'm running till I can't any more then walk for the same amount of time but the running is definitely getting longer and I'm ready to run again sooner. Yep I know it's feck all but after a good 30 years of not even thinking about fitness it's a start and I'm feeling so much better.....

It's my first 10k on Sunday. Argh panic! Due to my hip injury I haven't done all the training and did seriously consider pulling out. It is much better now. So, the furthest I've ever run is 7k and I haven't run more than 3k in the last 6 weeks.

Take it easy, walk/run (do proper intervals) and don't be ashamed if you do feel pain and you have to pull out.

Good luck!

Don’t be afraid to Jeff it, it’s all about the finish line not finish time.

The race atmosphere will help pull you along, as will the other runners. Good luck and enjoy it!

I mostly don't run at the moment apart from the occasional plod with the dog or Parkrun. I used to run a lot but spent a fair amount of time injured so moved to cycling.

In the past I've raced distances up to marathons although I started from an overweight state.

Very impressed. My aim is to run a marathon one day.

Keep an eye on the thread for our next parkrun social. We try not to stick out too much, but we do forget our surroundings sometimes.

After a few weeks of only being able to do short runs and sprints on the tread mill I did a 10k yesterday. I completed in 1hr20. I ran 7k before I needed to walk which was a PB, also the furthest I've ever run/walked, and a PB on the first 5k time 38 mins.

I remember when doing C25k and the jump to 20 mins non stop and thinking that there's no way I could do that but that's the brilliant thing about c25k the plan is designed so that you can and you will be amazed that you can do it, just don't give up, slow down if need be, must of its mental not physical esp if stuck to the plan. Good luck!

"I’ve recently started C25k on week 5 run 3 next slightly terrified that it’s gone from 2 8min runs to a full 20 minutes anyone have any tips how to get past the need to stop before the end feeling lol? I’ve mostly ran on a treadmill so far but my aim is for a park run

Well done for getting this far

Only advice I can give is, don't rush it. Slow, steady pace and I'm sure you will smash it!!"

Thanks for the tip I’m learning to pace myself and not run according to the pace of the person in the next treadmill

Good luck!"

Thankyou! It’ssuch a good plan, I would never have dreamed I’d be able to run for 8 minutes and then do it again so I guess I should keep that in mind slow and steady wins the race lol

Absolutely! That step up seems pretty harsh but it works, it’s really worth it.

A quick question are you using a dreadmill for it or on the roads?

I’ll just quickly introduce myself...

I’ve been running for just over a year, graduated my C25k last year in July and I'm now currently training for my first marathon in October. I run 3 times a week around 10/15k a time.

I’d just like to say that anyone getting out and running is amazing, lacing up is the best thing and it’s all about getting it done, not the times

Treadmill in the gym, I feel safer and a bit daft running outside on my own lol and it's also been a bit too warm for my liking but I will brave it soon

I found running on the treadmill to be a very arduous task, I still do to be honest! Most runners that I talk to hate running on treadmills, but if it works for you then great

Nottingham is meant to be a good one (I only mention that because of your location).

If you can't get into either London or Brighton, I know loads of people who have done Manchester and love it.

Nottingham is indeed a good marathon, if a little brutal mentally. The first 13 miles you're running with hundreds of people around you and lots of support. Most of them finish as they're doing the half marathon and you have to carry on running up to Holme Pierrepont where there isn't an awful lot of support.

It really messes with your head!

Tea Monkey - I can highly recommend the White Peak Marathon. Being in the Peak district it sounds a toughie, but it's actually ok. You run up the Tissington Trail, then on the High Peak Trail where it finishes in Cromford (the last half is downhill!).

It's a small but perfectly formed marathon! Usually held in May.

I did most of my 1st year of running on the treadmill for fear of embarrassment of someone seeing me out on the roads but now I love it and embrace it and only use a treadmill if running outside is not an option

I heard they changed the route so it didn't go out to Holme Pierrepont anymore.

For those that don't know, Holme Pierrepont is the National Canoeing centre and is basically in the middle of nowhere (on the edge of Nottingham).

Find out where your parkrun is and run there, i do that with my local one rather than paths and streets, it also prepares you for when you do a parkrun

I have found the local park run which I will have a 45 minute walk to get to (good warm up!) I’m slightly out off doing it as I know a creepy guy from work does it and I don’t fancy him leering at me and my wobbly Lycra well not until I can out run him anyway!

Can you not go to your next one along? I’ve got 4/5 within 30 mins driving distance from me. Although pervy guys are kind of the stock in trade of parkruns!

It’s not about times, it really doesn’t matter how fast you are, to me that’s the thing about running, it’s about improving and doing better than youve done before

I know that but I thought it being a crap running thread there would be people in the same boat as me and I'd get a wee boost. I go out and think I'm doing well...I'm all chuffed with myself....go on to this thread and everyone is so fast and realise I'm really shit. it's actually quite funny lol x"

Don't worry, I'm on the crap crap running thread too. It does feel a bit disheartening when 'proper' runners turn up

I seem to be on a full stop moment hopefully I'll get my mojo back properly when I've done my big walk in a couple of weeks

Keep running I'm still reading everyone's progress

I bet most elite athletes think the same - I'm crap compared to x athlete.

You are doing fantastic. So what if it's what you think is slow. You are getting out there and lapping everyone on the couch.

There are so many people at work who say "I can't run 3 miles". I'm sure they could, but they are just too lazy.

Mid-way through week 9 and running comfortably for the 30. I ran with a friend last night and upped my pace to stay with him, it was a little harder but I increased my distance and recovered quickly.

Can't believe how good the Couch to 5k program is; I'm fast on the bike too. Going to build on this and increase the length of time I run for

First run since 20th May tonight

Took it easy, but got tired about halfway in, so ran walked the rest.

Yay! The tonsillitis has officially gone (almost!)

On my own. There is a few people that have said to go out with them but they are proper runners so there is no point

No I was doing one mile but it was uphill slightly so I changed where I was running to a big straifht bit. I drove round it one day to see how far it was x

A bit of very light stretching will help with the DOMS. A good couple of days rest is a really good idea too

parkrun yesterday in 26 m 16s was my first 5k run since the last social and I hadn't eaten properly the night before and drank a lot of beer for me so well chuffed. My first busy one so was held up for the first part of the course.

Should I gradually build up to a 10k or just sensibly slow my pace and go for it? I don't take water with me on a 5k but might not make 10k without?

I’d say to build up to it, if if you can get your distance to about 8k then you should be able to make the step up

Well done!

That's a fantastic time!

You should be able to do 10k without water - rule of thumb is you don't need water if you are running for less than an hour (unless it's a race!)

I would build up. You are meant to increase your distance by a maximum of 10% each week. However, you should be fine if you increase by 1k each week.

Have a look at a couch to 5k plus app (there are some specially designed for people moving from 5 to 10k), or a training plan online.

You should be able to do 10k without water - rule of thumb is you don't need water if you are running for less than an hour (unless it's a race!)

I would build up. You are meant to increase your distance by a maximum of 10% each week. However, you should be fine if you increase by 1k each week.

Have a look at a couch to 5k plus app (there are some specially designed for people moving from 5 to 10k), or a training plan online."

Thanks, not actually convinced I can do it in under an hour but time will tell

Tried a 5k interval to get my legs and lungs used to running a quicker tempo. Nice gentle introduction to the week. I want to beat my Park Run PB within the next 4 weeks.

Let’s smash it ladies and gents

Did the Adidas city run yesterday.

Rather than a set distance, you simply run as many 1 mile laps as you can in 1hour.

There were some slow runners, some fast and even some blind. It was a fun concept to see everyone running their own race.

"parkrun yesterday in 26 m 16s was my first 5k run since the last social and I hadn't eaten properly the night before and drank a lot of beer for me so well chuffed. My first busy one so was held up for the first part of the course.

Should I gradually build up to a 10k or just sensibly slow my pace and go for it? I don't take water with me on a 5k but might not make 10k without?

If you can do 5k in 26 minutes, you should do 10k (with a bit of practice) in well under 1 hour (best guess is about 53 minutes).

Just take it easy and build up. You'll be fine!

I saw that and thought about it. It looks like a good concept. How did you do?

I managed 7.2 miles which I'm pretty happy with. It was quite congested but everyone was pretty laid back.

That's really good for an hour!
