After wanting a tattoo for years, I finally plucked up the courage and booked an appointment for next weekend. Does anyone have any tips for a tattoo virgin in terms of getting it done, taking care of it, does it hurt a lot, etc....

I’ve never done this before so apologies if I’m sounding a bit pathetic. I’m just really nervous.

avoid crying when having it done, depending where you’re getting it, the pain can be from a sharp scratch to having your ribs stabbed, cream it daily for a week afterwards, avoid washing it.

Aftercare - do exactly as your tattooist says.

Don't itch it. Invest in factor 50 if it's in a place that will get exposed to the sun. Obviously once it's healed.

Have a high sugar snack prior, something like a and a snickers.

You’re blood sugar level are gonna hit the floor as soon as the needles hit skin and you don’t want to feel sick.

After care? Bapanthem nappy cream is amazing, apply it 3-4 times a day. You don’t want a scab to form!

The healing process should resemble that of getting a sun burn where your skin peals in very small amounts.

Best of luck!!! What are you having done?

Did it tho with a fan on my face and my cousin distracting me!

Be prepared to get addicted...the pain is like a scratching pain but bareable and as daft as it sounds I find it quite relaxing. I started with a little one on my arm and now I’m covered in them. Don’t get too nervous it’s not as bad as you think

After care advice changes all the time. Last year I was told to use aqueous cream, super cheap and worked like a dream, no scabs

Wear comfortable clothes as you'll be slouched in an uncomfortable position for a while.

Take a fuzzy drink and DON'T be afraid to ask for a break if you need it.

Every single person will tell you s different cream to heal with but listen to your artist.

And don't jump on the first touch!

I used that last time and it was great.

Bepanthen for a couple of days till it healed then cocoa butter for a couple of weeks.

Depends how big the tattoo is I suppose.

If you’re only say there 20 minutes it doesn’t hurt too much, I’m fine up to about 3 hours, did my latest one in one go and took 5 hours, hurt like fuck.

The best advice for getting a tattoo is don’t get it done cheap, it’s cheap for a reason.

Also when it itches, because it will at some point never scratch, just give it a slap.. It's healing and by the time it's itching it wont hurt to give it a tap... Works for me anyway...
