I’m in the park with the dog, enjoying the sunshine, and listening to Chvrches latest album. I loved their first album, ever since a group of friends on another forum I’m on put together a compilation of our favourite songs of that year, and someone else added ‘Recover’. I played it on hard rotation then, and it’s been one of my staples ever since.
I didn’t expect to love the second album as much, but I absolutely adore it. ‘Make Them Gold’ and ‘Clearest Blue’ are cracking back-to-back album tracks, that rarely fail to bring tears of bittersweet, joyous hope to my eyes.
On a whole, I find the lyrics often reflect my own experiences or views, and capture the essence of those moments in our life. We often feel a strong emotional connection to music that we associate with events in our life (dancing with your friends to this song, your first kiss with somebody to that song) but I find Chvrches tracks make me think of times in my life long before I’d even heard of them. They also work as a fantastic way to lift my spirits if I’m feeling down.
Seeing them live on their last tour was an almost religious experience.
I’ve only listened to this new album a few times. Too early to say for sure but, while I’m not sure it’s as good as Every Open Eye, it’s another belter. They’re increasingly up there as one of my favourite groups of all time.
