Musing again Fabsters
This is one mainly for the ladies unless we have any Male doctors here.
During my recent smear test the nurse commented that if a lady has one sexual regular partner she is less at risk from cervical cancer.
Just putting this out there. How true is this?
Can multiple partners upset the sciences down below.

Its to do with the increased risk of hpv.
Covered protected sex will eliviate this.
Famously Michael Douglas blamed the number of women he had eaten on his throat cancer as hpv isn’t only women specific I causes throat cancer in men.
Oral can be as dangerous as penetrative sex. |

According to the cancer research website almost all cervical cancers, caught by a smear test, in the UK, are the result of HPV, which is a sexually transmitted infection...
So yes, it stands to reason especially if you have unprotected sex, you are at a higher risk. |

Yes i was asked the question of how many sexual partners do i have. Luckily for hubby he wasnt there or could off been embarrassing for him
But they did say higher risk if no condoms used as its males that carry hpv? Anyway after dragging me through this and that test including a biopsy they decided that im all clear! Now have to explain it all again next year

Yeah I was expecting that last week for my yearly check after last year having a biopsy after an abnormal smear test. They just asked my method of contraception and did another smear. |

Although every female on my mums side of family have had cervical cancer so i guess its only a matter of time for me.

I didn’t realise sex was so deadly! I’ve always been pedantic over condoms but they can come off or split!

HPV is spread by skin contact,so condoms do not offer full protection. The more partners you have, the greater the chance of contracting HPV (and other STDs). Females can contract it from other women. Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by strains of the HPV virus. Other strains cause genital warts but the ones implicated in cervical cancer do not. Hence all sexually active women should have regular smear tests |

That's awful sorry to hear that. At my last appointment last year,the doctor randomly said so you don't want to have a hysterectomy then. I was rather shocked as no-one had even discussed a hysterectomy to me before,I just said no.
Roll on the results of this smear,life is a rollercoaster eh. |

Well the male risk of developing cancer (throat or penile) is lower but mostly, it's down to economics . I believe it is offered to males in the US. Of course, you can pay for it if you want. |

I would guess for the majority, they are either unaware of, or have chosen to ignore, the risks involved in unprotected oral. It's up to each individual to inform themselves and decide of the level of risk they are comfortable with. |

Well if they offered me that i would jump at the chance but apparently im too young
They dont believe me when i say shop is shut no more babies! After seeing what my mum went through at only 40 they can take it all away as far as im concered.

It was not lunked at the time though I only found out about it about 3 years ago. |

The actual increased percentage risk is still very small. It's like when they say that you have more risk of down syndrome pregnancy as you get older, it's true but the risk is going from fuck all to trivial. Obviously people get cancer and people have dowms syndrome, but that's statistically inevitable. The real question is whether it's worth you changing your individal behaviour to mitigate your personal risk. I would suggest it isn't. |

No I had the cancer 17 years ago and 14 years ago the hpv virus was not known about then.

It's estimated that the majority of the sexually active population has been exposed to the virus, only some will become infected and of those, only a minority will develop cancer as a result.
You can reduce your risk of exposure by limiting the number of sexual partners, but you could also be unlucky and catch the virus from your first encounter. Regular smear tests are important. |

Mostly down to cost involved, but unlike women having smears, there’s no screening for anal and throat cancer for males. So males should have the HPV vaccination, although the vaccine only covers some strains, not all, |
