Cob? Roll? Batch?

notts and humberside

I travel a lot for work and LOVE to go to a local chippy for a scallop in a bread roll instead of the ubiquitous Mac Donald’s. so here’s my question. In Coventry it’s a batch. Nottingham it’s a cob. Any more for any more?

We all know that it's a barm cake.

Chippy near where I grew up in Blackpool used to drop bacon into the chip fat, barm cake loaded with butter, hey presto the world's greatest bacon barm.

There and to the left a bit

Definitely a roll round here - although if it's a larger roll it might be a bap!!

Bolton

Barmcakes. Its even written on the packet! Baked in the bottom of the oven and flatter than a roll, cob or whatever you heathens eat.

Fits a pie perfectly.

Nottingham

When my sister first moved to the Coventry area she was quite taken aback that the chippy sold a scollop batch and didn't have a clue what it was.

Turns out they meant a fritter cob

Salford Quays , Manchester

Round here, it's a Barm cake, or maybe an Oven bottom.

Bacon Barm for breakfast.

Chip butty for dinner.

Holland's meat pie or steak pudding and chips for tea.

Start the diet tomorrow
