Hiya
I have recently been made redundant (from a job I was starting to hate). However I have been in pretty much continuous employment for 18 years over a couple of jobs.
Can anyone give me any advice on looking for a new job? My previous employment didn't allow for a lot of networking?

Do you want advice on where to look or more general stuff?
Register with some agencies that cater for your skills, you'll need an up to date cv for that. Ask around, send cvs on spec, visit the job centre, have a look in local and national press.

the new jobsearch site is findajob its just another site scrapper.
jobcenter more like will try to get you to use that site best to prove that other sites are better than that site depending on what your job discription is
im not a lover of agency or registering with them as they are zero hr work and your not guaranteed a job or even a call out from them
dont use value my cv its a load of crap and is only data collecting
jcp advisor more like roach will try anything to get you sanctioned make sure you take home and read up on your jsagcc or jsag
cc is for claimant commitment
you can take it home with you but the roach will try to deny you in doing so stating it must be filled in there and then
be very careful what you sign for nowadays on that thing what you sign for you will have to do every week |

The value of a good, well written positive CV cannot be overstated.
With lots of people applying for a job, a good CV is the difference between the prospective employer inviting you for an interview or not. That's your first introduction. |

Also, don't be afraid to at least consider a career change or move into an unfamiliar industry or role.
Know what your core skills and abilities are (eg. organisation, problem solving, people management etc) and how these might be applied outside of your comfort zone. |

Get yourself registered on the Civil Service Jobs site, it's where all the jobs for every government department get advertised. New ones are added on a daily basis and there are literally thousands to choose from |

We're you not given help or advice when the redundancies were announced? Hell to write a cv etc?
Agencies are a good stop gap. I got my current job after registering with an agency when I got made redundant 5 years ago.
Do you want to work in the same industry or try something new? |
