I sat in my mates garden having a cuppa for approximately an hour last night. Noticed a few Mozzies buzzing around which has never been an issue in the past.
This morning I noticed I had been bitten four times on each leg/calf, and this evening they have grown to the size of small mountains and are extremely itchy. Has anyone else been annihilated by the little gits this year? Just wondering if there is a new brand of super mosquito on the prowl?? |

I suffered for years with mosquito bites ; lake Garda and even bites in my back garden viz I live near a lake!! Swollen arms and couldn’t get my shoes on in turkey; even had to have antibiotics
Sting and Bitecream only aggravated the bites
SOLUTION
Buy witch hazel it’s really soothing and works wonderfully
I swear by it and carry a tube at all times
Last trip to Italy share d it with the coach!! |

I googled remedies when I got bit bad in Turkey one year.
Get a face flannel or cloth and poor hot but not scolding water on it then press it against the bit. It'll stung at first but then it'll go. The heat neutralises the bite |

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help. Just weird that all of a sudden they have taken a likening/dislikening to me. I may dress as a bee keeper from now on. |

Thanks loads. I’m often out and about as I’m a wildlife photographer. As I said, it’s the first time they’ve had a go at me. If they are gonna make a habit of it, I might have to try some of this. |

I react to all insect bites I'm just so tasty lol.
In summer I use a citronella gel on my skin plus wristbands and sometimes also a repellant containing NEEM OIL, carry antihistamines and an after bite pen. Guaranteed the one day I don't cover up is the day I get bitten. Horse flies are attracted to bright colors, and only the females bite, and get infected really easily, almost ended up in hospital last year when my arm doubled in size.
Other biting buggers are attracted to sweat hence why a lot get bitten around the temples in summer. |

I've had more bites this year but antihistamine has had them suppressed, when it's been to hand. I run under cold water and use ice, to calm it and improve subsequent blood flow.
Carry some citronella candles in your car in summer as a cheap fix.
Yesterday I had a flame burn, nettle sting and some bites and E45 was good - but I agree with others about witch hazel's benefits to calm skin.
Smaller groups of people can be better as the concentrations of attractive scents is weaker.
In the garden empty and remove anything that can hold remnants of water after showers etc, as these are breeding grounds. Consider fish if your pond will support them, as they'll eat the larvae. Spiders are your friends to trap them too. |
