Eccentricity - Quirky or odd behaviour
Normal - A behaviour that is acceptable in society.
Odd behaviour, mania, or weird or some words that are used to describe people whose behaviour doesnt always fit into what is deemed acceptable in society.
The words seem to have a negative vibe about them, however, if everyone fitted the same pattern would things get invented, would we have the creativity of some.
people such as vincent van gogh, spike milligan and robin williams to name but three are well known people that have suffered with periods of mania.
So would you agree with the statement.
The world needs eccentric people

Why is it that when you're odd and rich you're considered "eccentric" but the person with exactly the same attributes that is poor is just "odd" or worse?
To answer the OP, God yes! We need them all otherwise life would be dull and we'd never move forward. |

I like eccentric people, its boring when everyone acts the same. I used to like Mr. Trebos on life of grime, the old man who used to collect rubish and wouldnt throw anything away. I wouldnt want to live next door to him though. |

Its great to have the odd quirk and have something that makes you different, even if people laugh at you behind your back.
Lots of people will say they are eccentric because they believe its a positive thing, wannabee eccentrics. Usually people who are eccentric are very insular, have an inability to form close bonds with people, don't mix well in groups etc, of course that is just a very general view, but the true eccentrics I've known have certainly been very much like that.
Of course many people who are labelled as eccentric are suffering from mental illness.

I don't think of eccentricity as a negative thing at all. People who have a quaint view of the world make it a much more interesting place to live.
.... can't stand odd people though |
