just found out via youtube that from the 20th May the rules are changing for diesel cars. If you have a DPF fitted then the car must be smoke free or it will fail, if you have had the DPF removed or it looks like it has been cut open then again it will be a fail. |

This is why I am only searching for a petrol car... an automatic, 7 seater, petrol car is like looking for a needle in a haystack (well if I go further afield it’s fine but with no transport to get me to even look at it is hard lol)

"I knew they were changing but but not really read up on them, my car isn't due it's first MOT until next year...... then I'll read and panic lol"
Exactly what I was thinking!

"whats a dpf "
Diesel particulate filter I believe, they get clogged up and cause the car to go into limp home mode so a lot of people have them removed. |

"Oh no, you mean that people who tamper with vehicle safety equipment, and potentially kill people with pollution may be penalised... how terrible "
Do you mean like VW? |

DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter. It catches soot deposits and makes then innocuous if the DPF is at the right temperature. Sometimes you can regenerate it by giving it a chav time up (70mph in 3rd down the dual carriage way for a bit) others it will need cleaning or renewing. Take your car for a decent run out regularly. If it was designed to have a DPF fitted it must have one fitted.
Same for Catalyser, EGR etc.
Another fail under the new regs is the EML or engine management light; where as before it would be a pass advise if it passed smoke test/emissions it will be a fail
You can read up on all the changes that will be in place as of 20 May 2018 on the DVSA pages of www . Gov . Uk.

"If you fail, even if your current MOT has longer to run, you will not be allowed to drive the car from the garage.
I posted some other info in a thread on them about 3 weeks ago. "
To be honest, it’s ridiculously easy to get a “lenient” MOT I can’t really see it being a problem, especially those with modified cars. Where it’s easy to find out where to get a blind eye tester, It’s the average driver who I think will be pulled up and ripped off by the likes of kwik fit etc. |

Iv never understood that with the cost of replacing it. Had to replace the one on my Merc twice in the time I had it due to the mileage I do in my job but pretty painless!! X |
