So we were having a chat and some of the girls declared "I'm a cunt" in respect to the whole fab thing.

It just got me thinking where that attitude comes from? Is it a conscious decision to be that way?

Are some people driven to that because of their experiences or are they naturally that way?

The people in the chat were saying they don't take bullshit and stuff but isn't it possible to do that without being aggressive or quick to judge? Is it a defensive tactic?

Most people that say stuff like that it's just bravado or hot air. Nowadays you can't just have a casual fight cos there'd be police involvement, you could lose your job and serious stuff like that so people can really say anything without fear of comeback. Same as arguing on the internet, people are safe in the house, nothing's gonna happen to them.

This is a face to face conversation with a group of women all on Fab? What was bitchy about it and who are they calling a cunt, if not you?

I still don't understand.

I think the term bitchy gets thrown around too readily (although rarely for men kvetching). Sometimes that style of communicating is encouraged by the group and people play up to it.

I use chat a lot and can totally imagine this conversation happening, where each person claims to be more of a cunt than the last. I could even take a guess at a few of the names involved!

I don't know why it's something people strive to achieve. Yeah I can be a little bitchy sometimes, though it's usually down to a dry sense of humour. Generally I'd rather be seen as friendly and approachable.

Yes, it’s a conscious decision to be this way for me. I know where it stems from, I learnt a great deal over five years trying to certain please people by tiptoeing around how they feel, all while wanting them to be honest with me about how they feel. They made it extremely obvious and were horrible, nasty people to myself and others, all while telling us we were ‘paranoid’. I got walked all over, taken as a fool, laughed at and humiliated, all at mine and my husband’s expense. Because that’s what I thought was right. To be nice. Karma will get them.

Well nope. From the moment I was upfront and honest about how I felt, they were too. It was a better outcome for myself and my husband, we both felt so much better and wish we had been blunt and upfront from the beginning.

Nobody said they were a cunt regarding the ‘fab thing’. I stated that me being blunt gets me into trouble in day to day life, work life and fab life.

What was also discussed is that there is a time and place for people being blunt and upfront and a ‘cunt’ about things. I don’t ‘bullshit’ people, I’m either lovely and nice and happy, tell them how I feel, or keep quiet because it isn’t the right time, place, situation, or it isn’t something worth bothering about. Nobody in the chat said they don’t take bullshit. I said that I myself don’t bullshit.

And yes - it is possible to do this without being aggressive and quick to judge. But sometimes, it happens. I try and restrain myself, but it’s who I am. I’d rather people be honest with me and tell me exactly how it is. In regards to fab, I used to try and be as lovely and nice as possible - when I first started, I replied to every message I got, carried conversations on even though I wasn’t interested in the slightest. Now, I will be upfront and tell men (or women or couples) that I’m not interested.

In day to day life, I am currently in a situation where I have to be upfront, blunt and honest. It’s difficult and very challenging as some things I am bringing forward are very blunt, but it is for the best so the correct procedures can be followed.

It was a defensive tactic for me, the first time I was blunt and upfront when it really mattered. I snapped. But learnt from it. Now that’s how I am. And I prefer it.

I think expressing your opinion is totally commendable. Going against the grain isn't always easy and it takes a strong person to do it. I think the likeable thing is a good point too, like being the outspoken one gets a "following" of sorts.

I don't try to understand why some get off on being bitchy and wear the name tag with pride. I just avoid. Even my real life friends are sweet natured. My sister is very bitchy and says she " says it like she is", I personally prefer to surround myself with people with a little more tact. You can put your point across without potentially hurting another person's feelings.

I know what you mean. I feel as though it’s a bit of an act a lot of the time - I do think it’s a defence tactic, most definitely.

One of the girls (she knows this) was really bitchy when we first met. To the point I really didn't like her because of it but now she's one of my closest friends, because I got to see the soft side and see that it's all show.

She says I broke her though, she's not a "cunt" now cos I pull her up for it

I have this too, and some from the forums I really didn’t like, but I’ve seen a much softer side. "

I guess it's often a mask.

"Most people that say stuff like that it's just bravado or hot air. Nowadays you can't just have a casual fight cos there'd be police involvement, you could lose your job and serious stuff like that so people can really say anything without fear of comeback. Same as arguing on the internet, people are safe in the house, nothing's gonna happen to them.

So it's maybe for show? "

Yes most definitely for show and a defence mechanism. I remember being in a night club toilet with my mate and these girls were stealing lollies off the black toilet attendant and spraying her perfumes, one of the girls called the toilet attendant the N word and my friends son is mixed race so I was like oh fuck here we go. As expected my friend grips one of them by the throat there's 4 of them 2 of us no bouncers can see, another girl jumps on my mates back, I was thinking I'm gonna have to get involved and I'd just put my lipstick on, one of the girls was like you better tell your mate cos they are psychos and she'll get battered blah blah blah, I was just thinking yeah and she's a fucking gypsy and not even I would have a serious fight with her. Chaos ensued I tried to drag my friend off them before bouncers ran in.

Moral of the story, my best friend would call herself a cunt who doesn't give a shit for no one or nothing, and I believe her and have a healthy respect for her because she has no normal fear of society or cctv or police or nothing because she has a big family that really would come down on you hard. Bitch pressed a red hot tea spoon on my cheek once because I moaned about her putting the milk in first when she made me a cuppa tea. Thought she was gonna gauge my eye out the socket.

Now normal person on the street saying oh I'm a cunt oh I don't take any shit, I'd just think nah fuck off you dopey bastard.

Exactly. Just because you have tact, does not make a person a walk over. I don't take shit, but I won't get in a slanging match over it. I prefer to walk away and cut someone out, if they do something that is hurtful beyond repair.

"So we were having a chat and some of the girls declared "I'm a cunt" in respect to the whole fab thing.

I think it’s spoiled for choice with men. It’s hard to introduce yourself to women as they just often block, delete or not read email, chat rooms are great way to find friends on here.

But do you see what I mean though. My mate would never ever go round saying she was hard or anything of the sort. If you have to say you are something then you're generally not.

I think I'm too blunt sometimes and amongst my peers I have been known to be a little bit scrappy in my past, but the thing that makes me feel good and cool is when someone says you're a really good mum or you're actually quite funny or smart or nice. They are the kind of qualities that I'd like to be known for. I wouldn't want to aspire to be a cunt, like I was told earlier in a different thread that stuff I say is vitriolic and that hurt my feelings more than when another guy called me a cunt.

I don’t think you’re cunty with your bluntness. You just ask blunt questions and give your honest opinion. Plus, you’re willing to listen. Lots will say it like it is, but refuse to hear other sides.

It's terribly sad that some people seem only comfortable with others who are very similar, disliking even people who do what they would also like to but don't have the guts to.

I've met with some bitchiness and block them from my life - lifes tough enough without people who will degrade you.

"It's terribly sad that some people seem only comfortable with others who are very similar, disliking even people who do what they would also like to but don't have the guts to.

I've met with some bitchiness and block them from my life - lifes tough enough without people who will degrade you. "

Ladies and gentlemen,

Reminds me of the time I was flagged down by a woman with a flat tyre that had a sticker on her car window proclaiming how she was a strong independent woman and men suck etc etc etc. It was funny reading it aloud while I was changing the wheel and seeing her embarrassed/outraged but not being able to say a thing about it

Firstly to address the word its self, cunt. Where i come from in Scotland, there are more uses for this term than the word there in the English language. It can be a term of endearment, disgust or indifference, or purely just a random indiscriminate term. But, that said we are illiterate cunts. Or genuinely just give reference to the old vajayjay.

But moving on, OP, i know you not to be an atom C bomb, as we have chatted in the past. With regards to those who take pleasure in describing themselves as such, i congratulate them. We all come on here to be our true selfs that the vanilla world would not approve of. Could you imagine auld Betty's pals from the bingo if they saw her with her gimp mask on and horse tail but plug swinging about? At the end of the day its empowerment. If those individuals get that empowerment and be the most confident self gratifying they can be, whos to complain?

"Most people that say stuff like that it's just bravado or hot air. Nowadays you can't just have a casual fight cos there'd be police involvement, you could lose your job and serious stuff like that so people can really say anything without fear of comeback. Same as arguing on the internet, people are safe in the house, nothing's gonna happen to them.

So it's maybe for show?

Now normal person on the street saying oh I'm a cunt oh I don't take any shit, I'd just think nah fuck off you dopey bastard."

Yikes

I’ve been much more aware of this since we’ve had a few threads about it, and on many occasions, the forum wolves are people who don’t use the forum very much.

There are those who are openly and admittedly cunts... there are those who are softies and pretend to be cunts as a defense mechanism... there are those who say they're bewildered by others' cuntish attitudes while drawing attention to them to make themselves appear less of a cunt... Thing is... we can all be cunts at times... whether we have one or not

"The people in the chat were saying they don't take bullshit and stuff but isn't it possible to do that without being aggressive or quick to judge? Is it a defensive tactic? "

Yes. And no. I have strong opinions and don't mind expressing them at appropriate moments but that doesn't mean I have to be a bitch, aggressive or particularly cunty about it (and if I were then it is more a reflection on the fact they have got to me and inspired an emotional rather than logical response). I am well aware that many people on fab don't like me - but I am comfortable with that fact since they don't like me for me rather than for something I purport to be for the sake of fab efficacy.
