Hiding in the shadows

Of the bands listed, without a shadow of doubt

Queen

Loved them since I was a child.

Soundtrack to my favourite ever film.

Several of their songs can reduce me to tears within the first few notes

Gah!! The Beatles spelled beetles. No "The", lower cased and a double e! I'm no grammar Nazi, but that nearly gave me an anurism.

Needles To say, I don't think they were over rated at all. 55 years later we are still talking about them, and every other band listed quotes The Beatles as an inspiration.

Of course they were nothing compared to The Beach Boys mid 60s. If Brian Wilson had kept creating new experimental music and didnt go cuckoo, they would surely be at the top of the list

I love Black Sabbath, but wasnt The Beatles - Helter Skelter technically the first of the Heavy Metal era?

It was Jimi Hendrix ( I want to say "Hey Joe", but I can't remember the track) that was described by a journalist as being "like heavy metal falling from the sky", and lo! A new genre was born.

The Animals, Procol Harem, Jeff Beck, Faces, Zombies, The Move... And we havn't even reached the 70's yet...

We are a country that has had talented music creators and performers since long before greensleeves may have been written by the 8th guy called Henry.

Picking one of a select handful is impossible.

There and to the left a bit

Oasis aren't fit to wipe the others shoes and shouldn't even be listed.

For me of those named The Rolling Stones would just edge it but only because they didn't have a boy band era as The Beatles did in their early years.

Whilst I can appreciate some Queen and acknowledge they were innovative etc they don't quite do it for me the same way as The Beatles or The Stones did

From those choices, Queen. Wish I would have been able to see Freddie live.

Sabbath should definitely be up there, Led Zeppelin fans would argue for them too, The Who too.

The point is that like everything in life, it is subjective.

OP has listed artistes from different eras. Each had their own individual styles that suited their own respective era.

I go for the Beatles as they had the biggest musical influence on my life as I grew up.

Close behind is QUEEN but not necessarily better than the Fab Four. As for the others, I wouldn't rate them; I'm not saying they're crap, just that their music styles don't appeal to me.

Ah no, as I said, I'm not a grammar Nazi, i don't care about people's spelling or typos, as long as I understand what they're trying to say. But I fuckin love The Beatles a bit too much, I need to get a hobby :P

Queen hands down every time for me.

But consider the influence the others had, without the Beatles, stones or who and numerous others there would be no queen or Oasis and many others that could be in the running.

Queen out of the choices, however black sabbath are our favourites!

Quite surprised nobody has mentioned deep purple yet! Personally I think Blackmore is the best guitarist of all time! The rest were a tight and heavy rhythm section!
