It's a hidden part of the internet that most people wouldn't have the knowledge to be able to access.
It's mostly used for illegal purposes such as drugs, weapons and people trafficking, paedofilia, terrorism etc. |

Whilst frequented by all sorts of dark and disturbed individuals it also has other more mundane uses.
Wikipedia has all you need to know really.
It’s fascinating to have a look at some of the online market places for about five minutes and then you realise you can buy stuff like that on the open web anyway. (Guns etc)
Never ever follow a blind link though. |

its the illegal stuff you wont get near to. |

It's just a catch-all term for any encryption protected website which normally means illegal activity of some sort is taking place.
It's not like there is a little physical corner of the internet that naughty web sites live in. |

The Dark Web has 3 main sides...
You need a TOR browser, and can use this to:
Browsing Super Anonymously
And...
Accessing Blocked/Filtered Sites
And...
Accessing Sites only accessible on The Dark Web
1. Browsing Super Anonymously is useful if you are a Terrorist, or if you are a business and need to keep your activities a secret from the competition, or if you are uploading/downloading/viewing content that could get you into trouble
2. Accessing Blocked and Filtered, like torrent sites, US TV Show sites... or anything else blocked in your country
3. Accessing The Dark Web is basically accessing site specifically set up only to run on a TOR browser...
These are more commonly sites that people sell drugs on, and other dodgy stuff...
I’ve only ever been on Silk Road... and I shit you not.... you could literally buy anything... any drug you can think of... any drug that you’ve never heard of too!
It was like the eBay for drug dealers...
Pay via bitcoin
It arrives in the post
Sellers are rated like eBay sellers, so you know who to trust...
Not sure if there’s still a version of Silk Road online, but when we had a look at it, it was fucking unreal
You could also buy normal stuff, like hard drives full of the latest hollywood films and music
But... You could buy guns, ammo... and also hire a hitman to kill someone for you!!!!
So, pretty similar to eBay
I never bought anything from there... but was tempted to buy some Magic Mushrooms... just for an experience...
I was just worried they’d send a bag of heroin instead, and I’d go to jail |

The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks that use the Internet but require specific software, configurations or authorization to access. The dark web forms a small part of the deep web, the part of the Web not indexed by web search engines, although sometimes the term deep web is mistakenly used to refer specifically to the dark web.
The darknets which constitute the dark web include small, friend-to-friend peer-to-peer networks, as well as large, popular networks like Tor, Freenet, and I2P, operated by public organizations and individuals. Users of the dark web refer to the regular web as Clearnet due to its unencrypted nature. The Tor dark web may be referred to as onionland, a reference to the network's top-level domain suffix .onion and the traffic anonymization technique of onion routing. |

The dark web was invented by American security services to keep their data secure. Like anything that is put online people find out about it and put their own content on from porn, drugs and weaponry. You access with a browser called TOR which stands for The Onion Ring as it has many layers or redirects and security. If you enter it it is difficult to browser as it does now show on Google, Yahoo or other search engines so you navigate using link sites that will direct you to various sites. It is extremely dangerous to browse and your actions can be traced unless you are an internet security expert (this is a part of my job). Enter at your own risk, I won't use it and I know what I am doing! |

Used for many reasons, including people and organizations that dislike the fuller surveillance systems of the other parts. The standard web, with Fab etc, is a fraction of the total web. It's also infiltrated by more totalitarian governments and security, so it's not a free for all system without constraint or risks. I'm too busy on the standard web, even just dealing with fab messages, to venture there. |

Though it is used for such subjects mentioned, it’s also used by Journalists, Politicians, News Groups, the list goes on. If you want to know what’s going on in the world, you don’t listen to the BBC! |
