"I had a strange thing happen on saturday i met a lovely couple for a social evening for a drink and chat. I am a non smoker and my profile reflects the fact i wont meet smokers. Had a great evening and they really were nice and when i got home i sent a message via fab to say i would love to see them again. The mail was opened and left for two days and a reply eventually came back to say that they had not been honest with me and they both smoked. Now what is the point i ask myself. I have to be fair they didnt stink of cigarette smoke but i really feel they wasted my time. Their profile states they are non-smokers by the way Has anyone else had this happen?" So if they hadn't told you, and were as 'clean' the next time you met them, you'd have (probably) played with them completely unaware that they smoke. It begs the question as to whether it's the smell or the habit that offends you the most. The smell can be obscured, but anti-smoker's attitudes towards smokers is a lot harder to cover up.

I totally agree with you, M has just given up smoking, L is a social smoker ie only when I have a drink and now as M has stopped I probably will too, not had a drink for 2 weeks so not had a cigarette either. We are listed as non-smokers for the very reason of anti smokers attitude! We never smoke on a meet unless the others smoke and alot of the time although they are listed as non-smokers you find that they do too. Seems very common to us!

I smoke and make it clear to people who want to meet us. If anyone expects to come to our house and play with AND expect me to not smoke they can bugger off, to be frank. I don't smoke in the house anyway as Siren is a non-smoker and we have small children but as a smoker the aromas linger on me (deliberate use of the word aroma there, because as a smoker I'm not going to say odour, am I). The bottom line is: anti-smokers who feel that strong about it have the freedom to message other anti-smokers and give us a swerve altogether.

"makes you wander what else they lied about " ..and this kind of comment is a typical knee-jerk reaction. Everyone tells a porky or two every now and then but it doesn't make them an habitual liar. I know the pressure smokers feel about telling the truth about smoking, and it's not a lot different to guys fessing up to being bisexual, but in my case I've simply avoided meeting anyone who is anti-smoking (or anti-bi) as I just don't want to get into a discussion about it.

"I don't smoke but will meet smokers what's the issue? How many times in younger days would u pull at a club start necking them n notice they smelt of smoke?? I can never remember anyone in my circle of friends saying oh I pulled but she smoked so I said no thanks!!!! Lol as it is were all different but don't discount a whole group of people cos of a past time, imagine gettin turned down fir a job cos u swing?? " can say that if I was necking with somoene when younger than realised they stank of smoke believe me I would stop pretty quick.

"The smoking thing works both ways though, Wishy-: I met a nice man in a club who didn't smell or taste of smoke, and as an ex smoker myself, I am very sensitive to it, but hate those sanctimonious ex smoker types who get all precious about it! (I have however developed an aversion for kissing 'smokey fellas', these days.) Anyway, in subsequent encounters he made no effort to take that into account, and even though I really liked him, I can't get past it, so won't meet him anymore. Which is a shame, but it turns me right off!" Did you explain how you felt to him? If you'd put it to him in the way you just did here surely he would have taken that into consideration?? Siren can't stand the smell of smoke but she'd never dated a smoker before she met me, and by the time she realised she didn't like the smell her emotions had kicked in and she'd fallen in love. I'm ever conscious of the fact she doesn't like 'kissing an ash tray' and I do use (her) mouthwash before going to bed. Good job I'm not a kissy-kissy person anyway lol

"but in my case I've simply avoided meeting anyone who is anti-smoking (or anti-bi) as I just don't want to get into a discussion about it. " But here you are anyway! No matter what anyone says, they lied! Not about a little thing like age, which you can give leeway on if you meet, but on something that makes a big difference to the OP. It matters not whether she dislikes the smell or the habit, it is her personal choice! The fact they lied meant that Mercedes spent time and money meeting a couple that she wouldn’t have done had she known and she has every right to feel aggrieved! In a social situation, smokers can cover up the smell, but when playing it is way more difficult. When hot and sticky, smokers do smell of smoking! It comes out of their pores and can also taint soft furnishings. And to 1testarossa: " but hate those sanctimonious ex smoker types who get all precious about it!" And we hate those sanctimonious smoker types who get all precious about it!

Are you seriously saying that we should meet smokers just because you are a smoker? We don't happen to like the smell of smokers, but no where have we seen or said that smokers should be banned! Now, if you are really looking for a knee-jerk" reaction, this is it!

"How is lieing about your age not as bad as lieing about smoking.. if someone said they were 18 when they were 15 you could go to jail.. if someone said they dont smoke when they do ... what ? if they arent smoking around you your not gonna small of smoke, not gonna get any of the effects?? makes no sense to me No they shouldnt have lied, but its about something that doesnt really effect you if they arent doing it around you. I personally dont like playing with people who have smoked right before but if they go brush their teeth and use a mouth wash then i cant taste it so no problem. its her preference if she wants to play with them or not but if she likes them and they arent gonna smoke around her and wear clean clothes and have fresh breath, whats the problem? people lie all the time... at least this is about something that cant get you in trouble.. " Are you really serious? Smoking does affect others, whether they are around or not! I have never met a smoker yet who can get rid of the smell of smoking once they get a bit warm! And as I said in a recent post, smokers sweat can even taint soft furnishings and clothes. Trouble is, as a smoker they can’t smell it! If you don’t believe me, check out how they swab for drugs at airports and the like. The swab the insides of shoes, because the sweat will carry out any traces of things in the body! And where is this “people lie all the time” coming from? Two people have said it on this thread, but I ask you not to judge me by your standards! ALL of our playmates and prospective playmates are told anything relevant, even if we have been unwell in the last week. It is their choice whether to meet or not!

I've travelled a lot and have never had my suitcase opened let alone swab tested. Anti-smokers pick up on all sorts of soundbites released by ASH and believe them to be an absolute fact. I've smoked for 35 years and I sleep naked - yet funnily enough there is no 'jesus'-like imprint of my nicorette stinking body on our bedsheets.

Come on Wishy (and your merry little band!) I never said that they swab for nicotine at airports. I said they swab for drugs and that sweat does bring out what is in the body. Whether you like it or not, it is a biological fact! Take the piss (a sure sign that you have nothing useful to say) all you like. Twist what I said to suit your own needs. It makes no difference to me. I was just pointing out what I have learned from working in a public health lab about the effects of smoking on human biology. I don’t need ASH to tell me anything or provide soundbites, but I do know one thing. As a smoker, you may one day be glad of the research that my colleagues carried out and still are! I must also say this. I do not want the anti-smoking lobby to win! I like that smokers pay billions into the coffers of the government. I love the fact that they kept me employed for years. If you can afford to spend £40 per week on cigarettes, go for it! What I don’t like is the fact, yes FACT that some of our friends smoke and I know what fate awaits them, but their choice…

You meet a guy who has an STD and didn't tell you till afterwards by your standards you aren't going to mind one little bit. Or do you have dual standards? There is a box on profiles to state if you smoke and if you will meet smokers. To smoke and not tick it indicates you hide things. As for names when signing up to the site it asks you specifically not to use your real name does it not. You are grasping at straws trying to justify a habit that will in time reduce your ability to gain and maintain an erection and that is true with scientific facts to prove it although i really dont think you will want to acknowledge that somehow.

" As for peurile, let's keep the insults out of it eh?" My apologies if you took that as an insult. I was describing the way the thread had gone with your silly, throwaway comments. You must admit to getting a little that way! But if you want to think of it as an insult, feel free! As for clubs, we never play at clubs unless we have arranged to meet someone there. Why? Because as someone else has pointed out as well as you, we have no idea about the people there! Those at a club may have an STD or may be married and playing away. They may just be people we wouldn't normally meet! Yes it is possible that meets outside clubs may have this stuff too, but at least we can find out more about them! Overcareful? Maybe, but we have been swinging via the 'Net for 12 years (and magazines before that!) and have never had a crank, disease or someone who isn't what they say they are.. Works for us!

I love this particular argument. I've smoked for a very long time and have a 14y/o daughter, a 2y/o son and another on the way. I'd say I'm in fine working order ta. Do you smoke round your child? Nope. Not in the car nor in the house. I smoke outside in the garden and tbh, in pubs and clubs, it's a great way of getting away from someone we don't want to talk to - even Siren jokes that it's handy that I smoke sometimes. So why do you not smoke round your child? Siren would cut my gonads off in my sleep. " But you could do it while she is out you dont haver to tell your partner so why don't you do it?

Cos he's usually pissed in the corner on 15 pints of lager I've carelessly left lying around and doesn't want a fag. Do you really want a serious answer to this question?

When he reaches maturity he can choose to be around smokers or not, but before then it wouldn't be fair of me to make that choice for him. plus Siren would REALLY cut my balls off if I did.

Well at 2 years of age he may just be starting to realise but for the first 15 months or more the child would have no concept of what a cigarette was so did you smoke round the baby then? If not why and yes once again its a serious question.

" - That's about as serious as you're gonna get from me on this one. Strange you won't be honest about your reasons. I think you are avoiding admitting you have double standards on this." What is it you're looking for me to say? That it is unhealthy to smoke around a child? That passive smoking is real? That I'd be an irresponsible parent for smoking around a child? Yes, to all three questions. But that isn't what this discussion is about. It's about telling people up front whether one smokes or not and I still don't think it's neccessary if, as in the case of the OP, the couple concerned were clean and didn't smell of smoke, didn't have nicotine pouring out of their sweat glands and got on very well with the OP. Just what are you forlornly trying to prove here. Our profile says I smoke, I haven't lied about it.

"2Hunters... I really don't want to get into this too deep, but could you go back, read my post and quote the bit where I say it is OK to lie? I think you will find that I said lying about age is not as bad as age is a ball park thing, whereas smoking if it’s no, is a no! " What about people who are, say 25, and have an absolute upper limit of 40 because any higher and they'd feel like they were shagging an aunt or uncle? Is it ok to fib about age then?

Im not the one trying to avoid facts and if you had said that the first time i would have had more respect for you. The fact you don't smoke in the car or house is more than a lot of smokers do with children. Anyway the thread is about smokers honesty or lack of it and now you are being honest to a point i will not peruse that avenue. What i was pointing out with your own help is that often smokers will avoid being honest about their habit and how passive smoke isn't pleasant. "Smoking does effect the ability to get an erection. Smoking (nicotine) causes blood vessels and in the body to constrict. This reduces blood flow to extremities like fingers and toes and yes, no matter what size you are, your body considers your penis an extremity. So unllike Viagra and the like which open up the bloos vessels to make you a happy camper, smoking closes them down. Heavy smokers have more of a problem and the older the smoker the lesser the ride. Combine this with other maladies such as high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, prostate problems and any other number of problems and well...let's just say you're gonna be headin' down the runway but you won't be taking off."

How much honesty does one need to decide to fuck someone. It's not exactly marriage we're signing up to is it. Ok suck on this. "Are you trying to say that enough people have been swab tested at airports to conclude that smoking can be traced through sweat residue left on clothing? I've travelled a lot and have never had my suitcase opened let alone swab tested. Anti-smokers pick up on all sorts of soundbites released by ASH and believe them to be an absolute fact. I've smoked for 35 years and I sleep naked - yet funnily enough there is no 'jesus'-like imprint of my nicorette stinking body on our bedsheets. Another Knee-Jerk reaction for you! What I don’t like is the fact, yes FACT that some of our friends smoke and I know what fate awaits them, but their choice… " YEAH you might want them to win BUT will you want to be paying the extra TAX that will be levied on you because its not coming from smoking anymore??? as you stated BILLIONS of tax ... Does it not smell? I can smell it so can millions of others. Is it not an addiction habit? You can get prescriptions to help break the addiction from your GP after all. Is it not detrimental to your health? Well if not sue the government for misleading you with the health warnings on packets. To call it patronising rather than admitting what i said was factual? Well some would look at that as being deceptive, you could possibly stretch it to being a personal point of _iew i guess.

Not in every case it can mean is in the third person, but as you are smarting and feel the need to pick feel free, on the other hand a lighter and 10 Benson at the bottom of the garden may alleviate your frustration more fully. you asked me to google for clarification. I did. Try it yourself. The first link is for Team OP, whatever that is, the second is for Urban Dictionary's definition of OP: Original Poster. Please don't accuse me as being picky for doing something you asked me to do. Are you so desperate to try regain some credibility? Ok got one for you as i remember you adore google. Combine this with other maladies such as high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, prostate problems and any other number of problems and well...let's just say you're gonna be headin' down the runway but you won't be taking off."" I'm assuming you copied that and as it's full of typos I'll also assume it was written by - let's say NOT a professional organisation, yeah? But let's address the issues: The things stated in the article you copied affect *some* people, not all, but what it doesn't say is that *some* NON-SMOKERS also have erectile problems, high blood pressure, prostate problems, depression, anxiety, et al. It is impossible to attribute all of man's (sic) maladies to a single cause, when so many people are affected by so many of the same things yet lead so very different lifestyles. Many cancers are known to have a hereditary link to them (breast cancer is one of them), and some families are highly prone to cancers that other families are not, yet they may lead parallel lifestyles. How does all that impact in real terms: Only those who smoke know how it affects them personally, and it would be relatively stupid to start smoking if Uncle Bert, Aunty Mabel, Mum, Dad and Nan all died of lung cancer. My own gradnfather smoked all his life, was a fireman during the blitz in london and worked as an electro-plater - all occupations that affect the lungs - yet he died of bronchopneumonia at the age of 77, brought about by contracting a common cold. If anything, I should be looking after my ticker as the men in my family (father's side) tend to drop down dead unexpectedly with heart attacks, but I'm not going to wrap myself in cotton wool and live in a cocoon. As for credibility, I'll leave to our peers to decide who has posted with credibility this afternoon. My work here is done.

" Interesting seeing the reactions of smokers though. I guess the smoking mentality is to deceive yourself its not a filthy smelly habit that is detrimental to your health and others and its all fair to deceive others on about this addiction. I think thats the most patronising generalisation i have read in a long time Why? Is it not filthy? Does it not stain your fingers, taint your clothes and rooms in you smoke inside? Does it not smell? I can smell it so can millions of others. Is it not an addiction habit? You can get prescriptions to help break the addiction from your GP after all. Is it not detrimental to your health? Well if not sue the government for misleading you with the health warnings on packets. To call it patronising rather than admitting what i said was factual? Well some would look at that as being deceptive, you could possibly stretch it to being a personal point of _iew i guess. " in ur OPINION u can say its smelly etc etc etc, u cant say that about EVERYONE can u??? as for facts, I have a nursing background, i know whats healthy and whats not also know alot about free will and consequences. there are many vices available to us, some call it 'drugs' some call it 'moderated lifestyle'- there are people who shouldnt climb mountains, skydive,go on aero-planes et c etc etc...I cant judge those who endanger their own lives can I???

"I smoke (started again this summer after two smoke free years. bah!) and I know I smell of smoke. Even if my clothes and hair don't, I know my fingers do after I've had a cig. So if thats a problem then don't meet me. Obviously it is a problem for the OP so she's right not to meet smokers. Dunno what all the kerfuffle is about really." + 1 ok so its all about honesty....hey ho...i always say because we meet people from a site. they can be whoever they want to be. they could say they are astronauts and we would have to take their word for it. as the OP stated she didnt smell it at the time, most prob wouldnt smell it the second time. bingo!!

"OP my thoughts on reading your thread is this They didn't want to pursue the meet so felt it was a kinder approach to pick on something that you are set against in your profile. My profile states I meet 35-55s. If we met a guy and I felt he was great and we had good feelings on the social meet. I then message him the next day saying I want to play, he doesn't reply for 2 days and then replies saying, I'm sorry I lied to you, I'm really 34. I would assume that he didn't want to play with me for whatever reason and he was letting me down gently. The couple knew you were interested and had they been then they would have gone ahead. They did not decline for your sake, people don't do that, it was about them and what they wanted, which is completely acceptable and what its all about. " i actually read the post like that also.

You put your health at risk through swinging, you also put your children's health at risk if you share a bathroom. Smell? Health? Really in this world, with this much information available to you, you chastise people for exercising a right to behave how they wish, I dont mean non-smokers, had a lovely couple contact me the other day, but they didnt read my profile, first thing I did when checking their profile out was note that they "dont mean smokers", my FIRST message to them highlighted the fact that I smoke, it said it on my profile and that they wouldnt meet smokers.....

I don’t like people saying they don’t when they do, i don’t like the stale smell of smoke but equally find BO a turn off. I think that there aren’t big steeps from someone lying about smoking tobacco to lying about smoking cannabis but then it moves on to lying about other substances and we get to lying about needle use. Smokers are entitled to their habit, they pay for it, they pay excessive taxes (Unless they fraudulently use cigarettes that no duty has been paid on). If people are honest then its quite easy to avoid them. I do have issues with people turning up for meets and have stated they don’t smoke when they do and don’t think its unreasonable to object to people doing this and find it offensive that people don’t think you have a right to object to it. Oh and I am unimpressed at the fact many smokers are in denial at the results of smoking but i also have little sympathy with people who send money to Nigerian millionaires who want need £1000 to free funds so they can get £10 million into the country.
