So the news is reporting that sex addiction should be officially recognised as an illness. Thoughts?

What's to discuss? If it affects you to such an extent that it affects your life, work, family, relationships then it needs treatment.

I just wondered how many people considered themselves as sex addicts?

How they feel about the way its portrayed in the media?

How they feel it affects them?

It is a illness. Real sex addiction affects your everyday life. Like any addiction and it usually causes unsafe behaviour such as unprotected sex with numerous high risk people. You also find that sex addicts often suffer from other mental illnesses too.

It's very different to the majority of people on fab so it's not really the place to ask as people that like a lot of sex will say "im addicted" when it's far from the truth. If it stops them being able to function normally, and sex controls their every thought and emotion then it's a addiction.

I know someone who has admitted to being a sex addict. They recently went to Thailand and ( apparently ) had sex with 73 men whilst there . Needless to say that would deffo put me off going anywhere near her

I was just curious about how people viewed "sex addiction". If have caused any offence in any way to anyone I am sorry, it was not my intention.

No offence here

I work with sex addicts, I also work with people that claim they are addicted and they are not but crave attention that having sex gives them

I watched a documentary about a young man addicted to wanking. He would wank ten or twenty times a day. He was being interviewed in his car and drove past a couple of young women, immediately he had to pull into a garage and go to the toilet for a wank. This happened continuously through the program. At the beginning of the program I found it funny but, listening to him talking about how it affected his life was very enlightening and sad.

Society is only just starting to accept and understand the normal everyday mental health problems like depression and, people are finding it easier to discuss openly and seek help. It must be awful for people with lesser accepted mental health issues.

This makes me nervous that a "previously undiagnosed addiction" might be used as a defence to try and get a penalty reduced from a prison sentence to hospital treatment.- The Harvey Weinstein defence.
