When you chose your username was it a true reflection of you? Have you changed it from the one you picked when you first joined?

Do you ever think you hide behind it a bit?

Like I sometimes think Rubi is a bit of a character I play. She's much more confident and sexy.

Mine was quite simple, my mothers maiden name and despite their bad press, I really like wasps......

My original username was a geographical one.

The one I have now is apt and describes me accurately.

I've had a few in between that were either prompted by a film; something someone said about me on the forums or relevant to the time of year.

I went for shade 10 because I though 9 was a bit too dark and 11 a touch too light.

"When you chose your username was it a true reflection of you?"

No. I’d be CynicalArsehole, PedanticPainInTheBum, or GrumpySchlub if I’d taken that route.

.

"Have you changed it from the one you picked when you first joined?"

Nope.

.

"Do you ever think you hide behind it a bit?"

Sometimes I wish I did.

.

I can understand why people think the ‘dubious’ bit was intended to mean ‘cynical’, describing me. It’s actually ‘dubious’ in the sense that it (the oatcake) may be past its best, containing dodgy ingredients, or is perhaps barely an actual oatcake at all...

Ligeia is seen as much more sultry and alluring than actual me. She also has common sense and mischief in abundance; we have that in common. And we look very much alike on occasion; like the female fab equivalent of Clark Kent and Superman.

Part random for me. I’ve always liked the name Sebastian ever since the Cockney Rebel song from early seventies. It then seemed decades later that race and rally drivers were all called Sebastian. Also, as was pointed out to me by a friend when I first went on POF, that a 55 year old ‘Seb’ is more dateable than a 59 year old Malcolm. Jonnson was just plucked from thin air.

I chose my username obviously for my love of guitar playing but actually it's a comfort thing. I feel when I'm playing live I don't have to speak to anyone and can express myself through playing. It's also good to hide behind.

Fuck me that's a bit deep for a Thursday.

My other profile names were chosen because they were utterly non sexual. This one was random but entices shoe fetish types which is a pain because I'm not into feet.

I need to change again but can't be bothered to think of anything.

I was a bit glib earlier....

I wanted something that was funny, and a play on words.

I dont take "stuff" too seriously and wanted a profile and username to reflect that.

Someone told me the other day my profile name will put people off and i'd never meet anyone. I suggested he look at my Veri count.

I dont know if i'll keep it, or re-write my profile in the future.

For now, it'll do......

None of my profile names have ever made reference to me.

They're all related to the ocean.

As for me being me? I post my honest thoughts on the forum, get a little poetic about details on my profile to retain privacy and try to be true to my personality.

But let's face it, this site is a little bit of escapism for us all...an alter ego to some extent from daily life.

"I always think about changing mine but to what is the question "

.

There are about 100,000 nouns currently in use in English.

.

Somewhere in the region of 50,000 adjectives.

.

Maybe about 25,000 verbs.

.

If those 175,000 single words on their own aren’t enough, you could combine them. The nouns and adjectives (happy_squirrel) would create about 5 billion combinations. The nouns and verbs (thetalkingstove) about 2½ billion. The verbs and adjectives (I can’t think of any, but it’s possible), 1¼ billion. So that takes us to a few steps shy of 9 billion potential combinations.

.

Combine a noun, an adjective, and a verb, and you’ve got 125 trillion potential unique combinations.

.

That’s before we get into adverbs (Just_Peachy), made up words (Ludusious), proper nouns (Rubidoux), adding numbers (Shade 10), switching the order around (BeardedAndFabulous), spoonerisms (Fifty_grades_of_shady), tmesis (Pocafuckinghontas) and the inclusion of full phrases.

.

Paralysed by choice?

Somewhere nearby

Mine was a nickname at school. I joined Fab as part of a couple and we both panicked a bit about what we should call ourselves, had a mind blank and this was all I could come up with. It was all a bit spur of the moment!

It doesn’t really say anything about me or my personality, but I don’t see that as necessarily a bad thing.

I do think now and again about changing it, but I can’t bothered....!
