Agree with all postings and have heard many stories about him as he had connections with a place I used to work.Never met him and that has always been a regret, but his memory will live on for the help he has given so many people.

Well, well well, now then now then, as it 'appens, today is a very sad day indeed.

Poor Jimmy - did a lot of good for a lot of people. Loved Saville's Travels on a Sunday afternoon, not to mention his stints on Top of The Pops, the Radio One Roadshows and his yearly appearances at Gt. Ormand St Hospital on Christmas Mornings.

Another of life's one offs gone to a better place. He'll be playing some great tunes up there alongside Alan 'Fluff' Freeman I'd like to bet

Ah, the benefit of perfect 20/20 hindsight! The people who posted were lamenting the loss someone from their childhood. No way they could have known what's come out since, and should have no shame in what was posted then. Just as I have no shame in watching jim'll fix it as a kid (and appearing on it)

This thread was started before anyone knew what Savile had been up to all these years and it doesn't seem appropriate to keep this thread running in light of what we know now."

I dunno about that, it serves one purpose… it’s a reminder how easy it is to believe the persona and not know the person.

Agree... any extra time given to this is wrong.. Especially on an adult site...maybe more respectful to victims for this thread and any subsequent posts on this to be closed.. also the sickos that have been seen using his face in pics on here...

Calling each other names is not going to stop or help anyone.. maybe should all be left to the people that can stand any chance of sorting this terrible situation out... admin need to step in and close it... And yes i have asked then too...maybe if anyone that feels the same messaged them they might who knows...

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

I think the thread gives an idea of what victims were up against. Had someone had the guts to post negatively about Saville a year ago, they would have probably faced a backlash.

It's very difficult to swim against the tide, especially when there's a strong current.

Just like now, in the current environment, nobody wants to entertain any positives about the man. (Rightly so in my personal opinion).

I think threads like this can tell us all a little bit about ourselves.

What happened to a society that believed in innocent until proven guilty? Who gave the media the power over the courts to find someone guilty of a crime? Before anyone criticises me, I am not defending the persin - I can't, I neither knew him nor have I heard all sides, seen the evidence or heard a guilty verdict...

you are a lucky person..

clearly you were never molested as a child..

those that have been live with it every day, it can take decades for some to come forward..

some never will as they will have taken their own lives sadly..

try to put in perspective a child coming forward to make a claim of being sexually abused against someone as 'iconic' in the public psyche even today as he was..

and we are meant to have 'moved on'..

I felt exactly the same. I always thought he was a bit creepy and came across as not actually liking children. Even when I was a kid myself I felt the same and wouldn't have wanted to go on Jim'll Fix It even though it was the dream of most kids.

But, like the poster above, I didn't want to post what would have been perceived as disrespectful at the time of his death.

Funny old world innit.

There are two other issues with the whole enquiry/Saville personna no-one has touched on. 1) trust your instincts about people. If they make your skin crawl- avoid them. I always do. 2)for every single person who has been abused by anyone, this has opened their closed world right up. There must be tens, thousands of people suffering all over again now. My thoughts are with them xxxx

If what is reported turns out to be true and proves him to be the monster he is now suspected of being…. All the condemnation in the world will never make up for the horror his victims have faced.

But it is right for people to have the option to change their _iew of him based on recent revelations. …and no-one should feel quilt for not having foreseen this… If he is indeed guilty of these crimes, he masterminded a cloak of deception that fooled millions… .

For me there is an unfathomable quagmire surrounding the behaviour of someone who repeatedly commits atrocity against the vulnerable whilst simultaneously championing help for those in need.

I’d like to think it was simplistic as he felt by doing good for those in need he somehow mitigated his vile behaviour, But in reality I cant see that being the case and its certainly no justification,,,,,

But those in who call for an end to open debate over this dreadful situation, they risk leaving society poorly equipped at to identify the warning signs in future.

Thats my tuppence worth ....
