I loved chess. Kids of last 15 years or so have been brought up on games consoles & dont know how to entertain themselves without a mobile & internet. Kerplunk is a classic game |

As kids I remember two in particular that were all day affairs at holiday time, the whole family and friend group committed the full day to getting the blooming thing played (!) - one was a Sherlock Holmes based investigative one where you were presented with a case and then had to decide how to start investigating and what evidence to seek or witnesses to question, the amount of paraphernalia that came with the game was extensive. The other was a Westminster political election game where you had to lead your party into forming government, again it was very involved!
A less time consuming favourite was Ex-Libris, still love that. It feeds all my bibliophile and creative needs. |

What could possibly go wrong with a game of monopoly? :D
Risk was fun but I only played it a few times, Might have to see if I can find it in a charity shop or something.
The game of life as well, It had a spinny wheel so that was pretty cool. I did get mousetrap once but that turned out to far crapper than those adverts made out!

We always used to play board games and my mum still has most of them. When we all get together they often come out again.
Our favorites were monopoly, game of life, go for broke and totopoly.
Totopoly might be the horse racing game you remember. The board was double sided and the first part of the game was training. The second part was the actual race and the outcome could be influenced by how well you did in the first part. You used to pick up cards that would give you an advantage or disadvantage in the race. |

Loved playing all sorts of board games with the kids, monopoly was a big family fave, and the one with the dice "popper dome" in the middle, cant remember what it was called.
Cluedo was another family fave, as well as various card games.
Mart used to have a group of guys come round every couple of weeks to play dungeons and dragons, that used to go on to the early hours. |

I loved Game of Life!
I also had a game called Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs. It's still in my parents loft, with half the pieces missing!
My niece is 7 and she plays board and card games (and not just on the tablet). |

"Game of life
Lost valley of the dinosaurs
Cluedo
Trivial pursuit
Game of knowledge
Was Game of Knowledge the one with the planets?"
Just googled it and it was.
My brothers refused to play with me anymore when one summer I sat and learnt the answer to every single question (we also had an expansion pack which had additional questions). |

I went to boarding school so we had loads of different games to play, especially in the Easter term when everyone brought their Xmas presents back.
When we played Risk, we used to set up 2 boards next to each other so you had to conquer 2 worlds to win. The game could go on for days though
Still love playing Scrabble & Backgammon |
