I had mine 2 weeks ago on Friday, haven't had the results yet. I'm going to call if I don't get anything in the post tomorrow.
To anyone putting it off: Just go, it's so important, could save your life and literally takes under a min for the actual test! |

Away with the fairies (Liverpool to you) |
Did it Monday so I have that lovely 2 week wait ahead
On a slightly different note my sister (who gets hers done regularly) has just had her cervix lasered because she has abnormal cells
Proves that regular testing does find any changes to your body ladies |

The last one I ever had in 2011 resulted in a hysterectomy in 2012 ... So do go ladies ... A few minutes embarrassment is nothing compared to the alternative...
Great news to all who have had the all clear xx |

Got mine Friday, followed by an appointment for a small lump on my boob, I’m sure it’s just fatty tissue like last time but best to be checked over than leave it.

I had an abnormal smear last year and had to have the cells removed. Got to wait til the six months are up for another smear and fingers crossed all cells will have grown back normal.
Anyone hesitating or putting it off just do it.

I’m up to date with my smear and my bowel testing. The joys of turning 50.
I had mesh removed in January and have since been told I have gallstones, Diverticulitis and an inflamed bowel. I’ve to go for another MRI.

Me too, I had this done in January, the ladies who are awaiting results, I heard very quickly that I needed treatment, it was only 4 days later. So please don’t worry too much, and I hope you all hear soon x |

Had mine on the 11th of this month got the results back really quick within a week all was good thankfully i was really worried as my last one was 9 year before i will never ever leave it that long again .
The same goes for checking breasts I spent all of 2017 fighting breast cancer i discovered a lump while applying fake tan i had NEVER checked before if i hadnt found it that day it would not have been discovered until 3 years later at the routine mammogram if I reached 50
PLEASE take time to do regular checks
Both guys and girls no matter what age x x x

"Mine was on Thursday...
Anyone else struggle not to get horrifically turned on by the embarrassing nature and the speculum? No? Just be me?
"
You're not on your own there! Latex gloves and lube
Being serious though, get it done. I had abnormal cells last year. Had colposcopy and lazer removal.
Six months later had my next smear. Showed slight changes and told not to worry and don't need another smear for 3 years. I'll be pushing for one in a year as I went from having clear results every time to moderate changes. |

"Bumping this thread."
Good shout, it's so important to go for these checks.
A lady I work with is a year overdue, she's gone/going through menopause and hasn't had a period for 2 years but he's just started bleeding. She's going to hospital next week for scans etc
2 minutes could save you. |

I started a thread earlier but I don't think there's been any joy. I have CIN1 with a small area of CIN2 and and a loop insertion,my doctor at the hospital just seems to intent on getting me to have a hysterectomy.
Has anyone ever had this where it's regressed? |

Not possible. I’ve had arguments at the docs over this but apparently the risk of miscarriage later on in life is a lot higher if you have them done younger so that’s why they won’t. |

Yeah I’ve had one before and also declined the invite to view the procedure My cervix tilts a bit though so it’s sometimes a struggle with smear tests. I get a bit anxious. The last smear I had I was convinced I was going to shoot the speculum across the room because I was so tense |

Please keep up with your screening. Just a couple minutes of discomfort and embarrassment may prevent further invasive treatment or cancer later on.
Even though I kept up all my appointments, I was recently diagnosed with CIN3 in May. After 2 treatments over the summer, I’m now having a hysterectomy on the advice of the consultant.
Colposcopies are nothing to be frightened of. They’re lovely and very professional up at the hospital. I had a dedicated nurse chatting to me the whole time and they make you a cup of tea afterwards. We were all chatting together, even the consultant. Quite strange but funny scenario whilst having it done, have the consultant peer over my legs to occasionally chat to me, whilst he carried out the procedure! |

Absolutely! It’s disgraceful that younger women are dying because they can’t get tested.
I had my 1st test at 18, my gp at the time ignored guidelines and tested every woman who had ever been sexually active regardless of age. At age 19 I had laser removal of abnormal cells. If it were not for my doctor and her blatant ignoring of guidelines I would most likely not be here now! |

Nah, not unless something of epic proportions changed in my life. The way I see it I'm just using up valuable oxygen someone else could use.
If I had someone to share my life with who would stand by me through thick and thin then yes, but other than that I can't see any real reason to extend a life that's got fuck all written in the future. |

Im a nurse, and do smears all day long. We've seen it all before, we dont care if you've shaved your foof or legs, dont care about toenails.
Id rather you had 15 mins of akwardness with me than no smear at all.
It should not be painful!! Uncomfortable yes, but not painful.
Ive done girls first smears, womans last smears, and those very very overdue! Please please book an appointment.
.
The test is not a screening for cancer, but tests for Human papilloma virus (HPV) which can cause cell changes. 1 in every 10 will have had hpv at sometime in their sexual life, most of the time the body deals with it itself, but the odd time it doesnt is when cell changes can happen.
Yes you still need one if not sexually active, yes you still need one if you are a gay woman, yes you still need one if you are beginning fem to male trans.
We are trained to support women who have had sexual\domestic\fgm. Please please come in.
Feel free to ask anything! |

I had my colposcopy on Tuesday and I told them I was nervous and they were absolutely lovely about it. We ended up having a right laugh. In fact I had to tell her to stop making me laugh in case i shot the speculum out - she just said not to worry they’d seen it all before . So much different to one of my first ever smear tests where the doc slapped me on my stomach and barked at me to relax adding ‘ I don’t know how you manage to have sex’ Thank god times have changed since then |

Hysterectomy yes, anything where the treatment was gruelling I really don't think I would. I'll never forget the day my cousin died. He obviously didn't have anything wrong with his female anatomy, but he'd been through treatment after treatment from the age of 7 until 32. When it came back elsewhere the last time he'd given up. Refused treatment. I saw him the day before he died, even though he was hooked up to morphine we had the best time, we laughed, we cried, we said our goodbyes and I've never seen another human being in all of my time with a look of such relief on their face. He was tired and ready.
We were more like brother and sister growing up and it still breaks my heart thinking of all the pain he endured, the uncertainty, the bad news again and again. Once he made his decision he planned, he planned everything for his own funeral, so it was just so and perfect. |

Yes passed its MOT last month. Had hysterectomy in May but kept cervix so still need smears. Always have been clear thankfully.
Its so important especially on this scene due to HPV exposure. Any cell changes would be picked up etc before becomes cancer, its about prevention. |

I was booked in for yesterday and just as I went to bathroom to 'freshen up', my body decided to scupper the whole thing.
Rebooked for next week after an awkward conversation with the doctor's receptionist |

"No been asking me for five years and I put it off, guess I'm in the percentage that doesn't want to know if bad news "
Its every 3years until your 50 then every 5years. Its about prevention b4 cells change to cancer, if picked up early then its treatable. |

"Don’t think there’s a thread running already.
Just had my results, all clear. Always a relief.
Ladies are you uptodate with yours?
Haven't had one for six years. Or a period
You don't need to after a hysterectomy "
That's only true if your cervix was removed with the uterus. If it remains, smears are still advised. |

8 out of 10 people who are sexually active will have HPV at some point (I have a Fellowship in Public Health and worked in the sexual health area for 10 years) - good news, most of those having HPV (90%) will clear the infection within 6 months or so. It’s an extremely common virus and there are about 120 different (geno)types, some of which are ‘high risk’ - for example HPV16 - meaning they have the potential to cause cancer: that’s potential, not an absolute. Other types, e.g. HPV1 are responsible for plantar warts and are innocuous |

"Just got my results - have to go for a colposcopy. Not nice but better to be safe than sorry.
I had one. It’s really not that bad honestly. Although they do ask if you want to watch on the camera I politely declined!
Yeah I’ve had one before and also declined the invite to view the procedure My cervix tilts a bit though so it’s sometimes a struggle with smear tests. I get a bit anxious. The last smear I had I was convinced I was going to shoot the speculum across the room because I was so tense
I have to get into some kind of yoga pose to find my cervix. It’s takes a little while but a few giggles later and they finally find it.
I had my colposcopy on Tuesday and I told them I was nervous and they were absolutely lovely about it. We ended up having a right laugh. In fact I had to tell her to stop making me laugh in case i shot the speculum out - she just said not to worry they’d seen it all before . So much different to one of my first ever smear tests where the doc slapped me on my stomach and barked at me to relax adding ‘ I don’t know how you manage to have sex’ Thank god times have changed since then "
Yes, my recent experience (see further above), has been much better than they used to be. Aged 14, virgin, never had a ‘proper’ boyfriend, second time ever examined, first time with the consultant (Chinese woman), beng slapped on my belly and being shouted out to ‘relax’. My mother to this day says how horrible she was...
I find them now much more transparent with their treatments and knowledge, their friendliness (I’m on first name terms with my consultant), asking for consent to do things (had nurse practitioner today at my pre-op, ask for my consent to take my blood) and once in the system, how quick they work (booked in for hysterectomy within 6 weeks). Perhaps it depends which health authority you’re in on how you’re treated.

I’m glad someone started this & bumped it as my threads all filled up!!
My 1st smear test saved my life. If i’d had to wait until I was 25 I’d have been dead.
Many years & far too many treatments later, I’n being given a hysterectomy. Everything out - ovaries, cervix & top of vagina too as it’s too risky to leave in. I can’t wait!!! |

I've just undergone LLETZ treatment for CIN 2 - abnormal cells found that I would have been unaware of if I hadn't gone for my routine smear test. I've my fingers crossed that I don't need further treatment, but I'm incredibly glad that I went. I'd rather be told they had found something that could develop into cancer, than be told it was cancer. Please don't delay the testing ladies x |

I forgot to start part 4
I’m religiously up to date & tested every 6 months. Had my last one now though as total (possible radical) hysterectomy is imminent. I hardly have any cervix left after so many LLETZ treatments for CIN3

I knew something was wrong with my body after my last child but was dismissed for almost a year, I was finally believed and was given a colposcopy. Thankfully I was booked in for a radical hysterectomy 3 months later.
Almost 3 years on now and I'm enjoying life.
Because I didn't give up.
We know our own bodies ladies so fight for your right to live, any woman who is sexually active should have a smear test done.

"Booked in for mine next week. A lot of my female friends around my age (31) wont get theirs done cause they get embarrassed "
This makes me so angry!!! The new equipment is brilliant & makes it so quick & painless. Nurses have seen it all & don’t care. Please try talking to your friends xxxxxx |

I got recalled after mine, sent for colposcopy. Turned out to be low eostrogen but shows how serious NHS take this screening. Consultant was lovely, said its about spotting early changes that can be treated before it turns into cancer. |

"I’m up to date with my smear and my bowel testing. The joys of turning 50.
I had mesh removed in January and have since been told I have gallstones, Diverticulitis and an inflamed bowel. I’ve to go for another MRI.
"
Have the gallstones been bothering you?
If I had the chance over again, I’d spend 6 months at least trying alternatives to surgery: don’t get me wrong I’m not in pain or suffering , but I do miss my gallbladder on a daily basis |

I had a lletz procedure 2 weeks ago to remove grade 2 (cin2) pre cancerous cells. I went 11 years since my previous smear (no particular excuse, just something I never made time for or was too keen on). Waiting for results of the lletz now to see if they renoved it all and to make sure there was nothing more discovered. My smear originally showed "borderline" changes and when I went for colposcopy and she took a biopsy she said it was only to check if I would need a repeat smear in a year or return to the normal 3 years. So I had a shock when I had the letter saying they had found cin 2 and I needed treatment. Fingers crossed this result won't be any worse. |

Fingers crossed for you - wishing you all the best.
To give you something positive...your story is exactly the same as mine.... if it wasn't for the 11 year gap i would have had to check to see if I'd written it!!!
I've just got the results from my lletz and no pre cancer was found so I just need to go for a further smear in 6 months and if that is normal it's back to 3 yearly tests. It's a huge sigh of relief over here that's for sure! |

I had my 1st lot of pre-cancerous cells (CIN3) at 19 on my 1st smear. I’ve only ever had 1 smear come back completely clear with 3 years for next one. All others have been 6 monthly or a year. I have hardly any cervix left. But, thank god i’m still alive xx The treatment isn’t painful - a little bit uncomfortable maybe? - but take 2 paracetamol before you book in at reception just in case xxx Fingers crossed for you xx |
