Not really. These women (and men) have to make a living. They won’t get health care, paid holidays, sick leave, can’t take a cheeky afternoon off to go shopping....
Plus, I love sex. And I couldn’t do it for money, with men (or women) I’m not attracted too. It must take a lot of guts to do it.

At the end of the day it's the oldest profession in the world, and there will always be people willing to pay.
It's not something I would consider personally, I would rather and have gone without sex, than pay for it, but it serves a purpose |

I used to travel a lot for work and was one of the only guys that didn’t indulge. Not claiming to be a saint or in any way critical of those that did but I always thought ‘they are someone’s daughter, and of course they are usually controlled (owned? ) by some slimy male pimp.

As for being insulting, I'd always thought it was implying that women were exchanging sex for food, as if they couldn't get the food for themselves, or that sex was not viewed as anything other than currency.
I don't really think the phrase has any basis in fact, I think it's just plain insulting, probably made up by some misogynistic fool way back in the past.
But, I could be completely wrong, and there is a good reason for the phrase, which is why I said I've never really understood it. I do inwardly cringe a little everytime I hear it. |

Sex isn’t ALWAYS, or even USUALLY a service, but in the case of prostitution it clearly is a service. There are other human interactions available as a service; why not sex? If a person is willing to pay another person for sex, and the other person is willing to receive money for sex, does it affect you? My thinking is if a escort charges £100 a hour and you book her for a hour and she comes to you, she has time to prep for that appointment, makeup hair, she probably gets waxes, spray tans, nice nails, a lot of maintenance that's expensive.
Plus sexy underwear, stockings, shoes, nice clothes. Lube, condoms.
Then travels to you.
Then after you she has to travel back, the underwear she used need to be laundered.
She needs to shower and then do all the prep again for another call.

The phrase has nothing to do with exchanging food for sex or sex as currency. It is simply designed to point out that the exchanging of money for sex has been going on for a very, very long time, as long as anyone can remember. It used to be much more socially acceptable, and is less so now. The intention behind using the phrase is to point out that it has gone on forever and, for that reason, there should be no shame in it for either party. It takes some fairly contrived thinking and ignoring the plain, simple, obvious meaning, and say that it’s insulting. Bizarre.

I agree with most of your post, in terms of the costs associated with the job. It's worth noting that most working girls will have a higher rate for outcalls than incalls, and will add travel costs as well. But that strikes me as fair enough. |

£100 for an hour for sex seems pretty cheap to me.
However you only have to look at certain sites to see a big variance in what's on offer and at what price.
For some paying £40 for a fumble and a BJ in a car seems expensive, whereas for others, paying £100 plus purely for a happy massage without any sex is worth it.
I imagine like most things, you get what you pay for.
I wouldn't slate anyone for using or offering services. So long as there's consent.
