I would say it's learned behaviour but I know it's not. I don't have a fear of spiders so it's not myself that's passed it onto my daughter and she wasn't really like that when she was little, but now she has a terrible fear of them.
Her and a friend have just had a little dance around the living room squealing their heads off, wonder if she's got it from her friends.
Can it be learned behaviour or are some fears inbuilt? Apparently it was huge (not really) but it's not exactly going to do them any harm is it. |

I’ve always thought it’s inbuilt behaviour, but I suppose children go off the reactions of those around them too, hence your daughter.
I don’t mind spiders at all, although I was definitely a bit overwhelmed by the Aussie ones |

I used to not be afraid of them as a child but I am not a fan of them now. For me it happened after watching the film Arachnophobia. I guess it's the fear of being bitten by a venomous spider. |

We get some humdingers around harvest time when the weather changes a little and the farming machinery unsettles them they head in doors.
I’m normally ok with them but when I see them running at an unnatural speed and size at me I have squealed on the odd occasion. My sisters are terrified of them so I guess I pick up this from them.
One hid out under the rim of the on-suite for days and resisted all attempts to flush him. It was incredibly creepy seeing this 3 inch long leg come down and kind of stroke the air. Still makes me shiver. In the end I got fed up using the other one and nuked him with bleach. |

This is exactly what happened to me. Never used to be bothered, watched the film when I was about 11 and it absolutely terrified me.
I still check the shower for spiders before I go in. |

A family member will only eat certain foods, Her daughter is the same, Its probably a similar thing as being scared of spiders dogs etc If you see adult acting a certain way for most of your early life you will probably act the same way |

I'm OK with spiders. Not a huge fan of slugs or snails but could probably pick one up if I had to.
Turtles tho...jesus they give me the heebie jeebies. God knows why, it's a relatively recent thing.
