It took me a long time to decide on the design and placement of my tattoo. And then lots more time looking for a good artist. I searched the net, played around in photoshop and even drew an image on myself in marker pen just to see if I liked having something on my skin. It was a permanent marker and it took ages to wear off, but when it was finally gone, I missed it.
Mines just over 2ft long and I wouldn't be without it. It holds great meaning for me. I'm not saying you can't have a tattoo just for the look of it, but, please, think long and hard (again, forgive the pun!!!!) about what you'd like. Go to a tattooist and throw some ideas around. Buy some tattoo magazines and look at some good quality work. And if you have to, travel for the best tattooist you can afford. Then you'd be proud to show off your inkwork, rather than be embarrassed by it.

Got to agree with hippo. I regretted my first tat as it was a generic shop one. Luckily its small and not too embarrassing. My second one was 20 years later and was a design I put together that means something to me. My third (today! Ouch!) is a design I found on an internet community that I liked very much. I'll probably have two more, both designed by me.
And I am very lucky that one of the best tattoo parlours in England is in York. Shame about the waiting list! |

Totally agree. I have 4, the largest being a half arm/shoulder piece of a Buddha. It took a long time to decide how it would look. Took weeks of research on a tattooist, followed by getting recomendations of him. £300 and 5 hours work later and I am thrilled.
Not sure how painful a tatt around the pubic area would be, but I have 1 on the top of my thigh that hurt like hell.
Next tatt... got the idea of a UV tattoo next. just some wording that would only be seen under UV lights at swinging clubs... Love the idea of stripping off and have a naughty message glowing in the dark
