A runaway trolley is hurtling down the railway tracks. Five people are tied up and unable to move on the tracks ahead. The trolley is headed straight for them. You are standing in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull the lever, the trolley will switch to a side track. However, you notice that one person is tied up on the side track.
You have two options: (i) Do nothing and the trolley kills the five people on the main track. (ii) Pull the lever, diverting the trolley onto the side track, which kills one person but saves five.
How will you proceed? |

I have seen a meme on the internet where if you time it right by switching the lever back you can have the front wheels run over the group and the back wheels hit the one person.
Like a skid so to speak.
Anyway I digress. I would probably try and save the many and feel like I did my best knowing that my physical action killed someone but saved five. Where as inaction would have killed five. |

"You are on ground level, in a rail yard your distance vision is limited therefore if it is travelling at speed by the time you see it then it's too late "
You’re still incorrect. It’s okay, inaction is a choice |

Having also read part two before replying. I don’t think I’d want to cause someone to die, regardless of saving 5 others you’re still going to be the cause of a death. Wether that’s directing sacrificing someone or making a choice to switch the tracks |
