How open is an open mind.

Like Blue Cow, I wonder and just now I wondered how open is an open mind.

I previously thought of myself as open minded but then thought that actually there's lots of things I haven't tried that I believe are not for me, and actually I can't see what others get from something; for example the dom/sub slut thing I don't get.

So I guess my mind isn't as open as I thought, is yours?

There and to the left a bit

Just because something is not for you, doesn't mean you're not open minded though.

If you dismiss something having tried to understand it, and become informed about it you're still open minded, have just decided it's not for you based on an informed decision and not a close minded one that dismissed it out of hand

I think open minded can be when something that’s not for you, is something that you can accept as a thing for someone else.

Closed minds are when I hear someone say ‘that’s disgusting!’ Etc.

Then surely you can have both an open and a closed mind? There are many things that I've not tried, but wouldn't rule them out, and plenty more that I would rule out as disgusting.

But it would only be disgusting to you.

I’m not talking about something that’s accepted amongst the masses as morally wrong. If your mind is closed off to even learn about something, then you can promote yourself as open minded. Your simply unwilling to try something you don’t know anything about.

...Up on the Downs

But surely that is just sexually open, not open-minded? I am very open-minded in that I base most of my opinions on logic and reason and evidence, and if I see new evidence or hear compelling new arguments, I am quite happy to adapt my opinions accordingly.

But I am quite vanilla sexually - just because I don't want to eg drink someone's pee, doesn't make me close minded!

No it doesn't at all because while you've made a decision that it's not for you, can accept others may enjoy it

Maybe, being open minded, just means being able to listen. About anything obviously, eg - Man City fans don’t talk about football before 2008.

I imagine some who sees themselves as open minded aren’t, but how do you define being open minded. It’s a paradox really. Can only another open minded person see that another person is? Or is it closed minded of us to think that?

I'm open minded about whether the material universe exists or whether the whole thing is just a dream. Open minded enough?
