Ahem.
It's 10.46 and you wrote this 5 minutes ago.
As the mainstay of the British economy supporting these itinerant looters with the seat of your labour, shouldn't you be doing some work? |

"What is the number of the population as a whole on these benefits?
If its around 1 in 8 then the headline means very little, beyond being sensationalist."
Read the title INCAPACITY benefits or caring for someone on it not general benefits. I can understand frustration of people not working maybe getting involved. But if you are claiming you are incapable of getting out/working come on! |

7 of 8 did not take part...
In every society there is a less than honest minority...
It is for government to make policy to deal with the few... Not for the media to make their paycheques sensationalising the country into anger and apathy... aimed in the wrong direction.
The majority of us are damned good people.
This country isnt broken if governments gave a toss enough to get off their collective arses and help us...

"Too ill to work but fine to do i bit of hard graft plundering. What should we do with these benefit cheats?"
Who really gives a fuck. IT won't stop another lot rioting in 20 years time for lack of... whatever... and who'll get the blame for that. Some people just want something for nothing all their lives and feel pissed off when it isn't given to them.
Call me a dirty stinking capitalist but I believe in rewarding effort, and those that do the best get the best. |

What should 'we' do with these benefit cheats?
Who is the 'we'?
Some of this nations biggest fraudsters were not unemployed.....many of them held high positions of trust....Bankers, MP's, Company Directors, Heads of charities....
What should 'we' have done about them? |

So 7 out of 8 rioters weren't out of work, so that means what - they were students, at school and the employed... that should tell us something about how hopeful the people running the country have made the future look for our youth.

"I don't think this thread is going the way the OP intended!"
He was hoping for a 'virtual' lynch mob response....
Don't you know he is working so very hard to support these lazy workshy benefit cheats?

1- 8 getting incapacity or carers allowance. Surely you have to be able bodied to be a carer? Its sensationizimn.
That doesnt mean i dont want the bloody benefit cheats off the streets and the money to be given to the real people that need help. I just dont go in for random statistics |

The random stats brigade is rampant these days, in a survey I just conducted 100% of respondents agreed with me.
The PR industry is partly to blame, as the internet produces an easy source of surveys results. That then get extrapolated and made to sound sexy.
I have one example in my inbox today, and have spent an hour chasing background data and have come to conclusion that while some truth in it, coverage is being skewed by sound bite headlines. |

"The biggest cheats run the feckin' country! What should we do to those tossers? They take your money off you to give to them! "
...as for the politicians and fat-cat bankers - they're all on incapacity...
Incapacity to run an economy, that is ;o)

Nothing hard work about smashing a window and walking off with a nice flat screen TV unless your claiming incapacity for a bad back.
Who's to say these "1 in 8" are benefit cheats, though chances are some will be. |
